Scholarship Process

In addition to scholastic achievement, financial need and other factors may be considered in the selection process. Read and follow the “application procedure” for each scholarship or award in which you are interested. Due to the large number of applications received, non-selected applicants are not notified.

 Important note:  The disbursement of a scholarship is dependent on the criteria set by the donor. The recipient of a scholarship should be aware of the requirements of the awarded scholarship for disbursement.

Please allow up to 12 weeks starting from the date the department submits your scholarship check request to process your scholarship funds to your account.

  1. Once your application is submitted through "Student Application," if you've submitted a general application, you will be automatically matched and applied to the scholarships you qualify for based on the criteria of your application.
  2. After the application deadline passes, scholarship committees begin reviewing applicants from their applicant pool, and once their reviews are complete, they make their selections and notify the chosen students via email.
  3. Student writes a "Thank you!" note to the donor of the scholarship.
  4. The check request will be sent by the selection committee to CSUF Philanthropic Foundation or ASC.
  5. CSUF Philanthropic Foundation or ASC sends the scholarship funds to Student Business Services who processes the payment.
  6. Once it's been processed by Student Business Services, a list will be sent to the Scholarships Office to coordinate the scholarship with the student's financial aid and posted to their account.
  7. If the student has any balances due on their account, the scholarship funds will be applied to the balance and any remaining funds after that will be disbursed to the student. Please note that all scholarships must fit within the  Cost of Attendance  (COA). If you are expecting to recieve a refund for any financial aid or scholarships, we recommend that you set up direct deposit in your student portal.
