Top 10 Scholarship Tips

  1. Start Early!
  2. Review your eligibility requirements and the specific instructions for each scholarship.
  3. Write "great" essays. Inlcuding your accomplishments, challenges, struggles, financial hardship, extracurricular activites, and cater to the essay prompt.
  4. Utilize your resources: Your academic counselor, Writing Center, Career Center, etc.
  5. Ask your professors and advisors if they would be willing to provide you a recommendation: Kindly give your recommenders at least a 2-3 weeks notice before the application is due.
  6. Have your resume up to date for outside scholarships.
  7. Have your unoffical transcript ready for outside scholarships.
  8. Answer all applicable questions.
  9. Set a goal to apply for 1 or 2 outside scholarships each month.
  10. Do not miss deadlines! Be mindful of them.
