Top 10 Scholarship Tips

  1. Start early! The earlier you start, the easier the process.
  2. Review your eligibility requirements and the specific instructions for each scholarship.
  3. Write "great" essays that cater to the essay prompt. It's always great to include your accomplishments, challenges, struggles, financial hardship, and extracurricular activities.
  4. Utilize your resources: Your academic counselor, Writing Center, Career Center, etc.
  5. Ask your professors and advisors if they would be willing to provide you a recommendation. We recommend that you give your recommenders at least a 2-3 weeks notice before the application is due.
  6. Be ready and have your resume up to date for any outside scholarships you're applying for.
  7. Have your unoffical transcript ready for outside scholarships you're applying for.
  8. Answer all applicable questions on the application and review your application before submitting.
  9. Set a goal to apply for 1 or 2 outside scholarships each month, since outside scholarships are availabke year-round!
  10. Do not miss deadlines! Be mindful of them.
