CalWORKs
What is CalWORKs: California
Work
Opportunity and
Responsibility for
Kids
CalWORKs is a welfare program that gives cash aid and services to eligible needy California families. The program serves all 58 counties in the state and is operated locally by county welfare departments. If a family has little or no cash and needs housing, food, utilities, clothing or medical care, they may be eligible to receive immediate short-term help. Families that apply and qualify for ongoing assistance receive money each month to help pay for housing, food and other necessary expenses.
The amount of a family's monthly assistance payment depends on a number of factors, including the number of people who are eligible and the special needs of any of those family members. The income of the family is considered in calculating the amount of cash aid the family receives.

ANCILLARY REQUESTS FOR BOOKS, FEES AND SUPPLIES
We have an electronic copy of an Ancillary Report that we are happy to assist you with filling out. If you are asking for pre-payment of books, the earlier you can schedule an appointment with us, the better it will be for your case manager.
Please note the following:
As soon as you register for classes and the books are posted on the Titan Shop webpage we can fill out the paperwork.
If you are wanting to be reimbursed, it is important that you keep all copies of receipts from the books you purchase so that you can turn in the original.
Once the semester starts, if there are additional requirements for the class we can submit a second form for those costs. Examples of such items would be calculator, clicker, art supplies, online access to programs, etc. (You will need your syllabus as proof)

- Study Hours
- As defined by the CSUF University catalog “each semester unit represents three hours of University work per week”. For lecture classes- one hour of class time needs two hours of out of class study time. For laboratory classes- three hours of in class plus one hour of study outside class. ( Click for University Regulations link opens in a new window ) Example: when a student is enrolled in 12 units, they will be in class 12 hours and expected to study 24 hours out of class.
- Summer School
- CSUF offers two sessions of summer school. Each session is 4 weeks long and condenses a 16 week course into 4 weeks. Students are in class 4 hours for every unit registered. If a student is taking one 3 unit class, they will be attending class for 12 hours every week and be required to study 24 hours each week in order to finish the course successfully.
- Internships
- If your program requires an internship for graduation you will be required to show documentation (your class syllabus) for the amount of required hours that you need to complete for the semester. Once the documentation is shown, we will add the hours to your monthly attendance for Other Time required of you. Hours per week will be determined by the amount of hours required divided by the number of weeks in the semester. This will give us a per week requirement.
- Book Vouchers are not accepted at the CSUF campus book store. You will need to receive advance payment or be reimbursed for the cost of books.
