The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that affords the student the right to their education records, the right to seek to have the records amended, and the right to have control over the disclosure of personally identifiable information from the education records. A student’s education records can and will only be released to individuals outside of the university, including parents, with the student’s explicit consent.

Students must sign separate FERPA authorization forms with Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar, SBS, and other departments on campus that they want to give others authorization. Students may grant their parents and/or other individuals access to their education record by completing the FERPA Authorize to Release found on their student portal. Click here to view the How to Complete a FERPA Authorize to Release for instructions.

The Office of Admissions, Dean of Students, Financial Aid, Registrar, and Student Business Services will only disclose information if there is an approved authorized consent to release information form on file from these offices by the student.
