Student Involvement

Overview

Undergraduate research work takes many forms but is characterized by a spirit of inquiry. As a UROC student fellow you can earn money and produce a research, scholarly, or creative (RSCA) project as part of a class, thesis program, or independently. Participating in an undergraduate RSCA project helps you gain professional, hands-on experience in your field, improves your critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and builds your professional network.

Get Started

  • Visit the UROC office in PLN 203.
  • Check out our workshops to get connected with resources and learn about RSCA.
  • Talk to your department leadership about opportunities to participate in faculty-led RSCA work.
  • Talk to your professors about their work and begin reading the literature in your field of interest.

Find a Faculty Mentor

  • All UROC funded students must be guided by a professor.
  • Some students assist faculty with their larger RSCA projects and others propose their own independent project with guidance from the faculty mentor.
  • You can reach out to a faculty member to discuss your own interests, skills, availability and future goals.
  • You can then discuss working on a project together which could then include writing a proposal for the UROC fellowship.
