Academic Disqualification

Introduction

Although disqualification can have a very serious negative impact on a student’s academic career at CSUF, in many cases students are able to turn their situation around and return to good academic standing at the university.

Before you can turn your situation around, you must evaluate your life and determine the main reasons for your disqualification. Once you identify and address your main problems, you must also make school your top priority and develop a specific plan to raise your GPA through Open University. Students who fail to address the issues that lead to disqualification will most likely continue to do poorly in Open University and might not be able to return to CSUF.

The Academic Advising Center is committed to providing you with the information and guidance necessary for you to get back on track. We have two disqualification advisers who will explain your options and help you develop a plan for gaining readmission to the university. We have also created the following disqualification tutorial to help you gain a full understanding of the readmission requirements and specific steps you must take in order to qualify for readmission to CSUF. It is your responsibility to understand all the information included in the tutorial, as it will not be discussed during your disqualification appointment. The primary focus of your individual session will be to determine the courses and grades you will need to qualify for readmission, and to clear you for registration through Open University.

In an effort to simplify the tutorial, we have broken down the information into small and manageable sections. All sections are linked in chronological order and contain a mandatory quiz. You must answer all quiz questions correctly before you can continue to the next section. To advance to the next page, you must click the link provided at the end of each section. Once you successfully complete the entire tutorial, you must email the results to the Academic Advising Center by clicking the submit button at the end of the tutorial. You must complete the tutorial prior to meeting with your disqualification adviser. If you schedule a disqualification appointment and then show up without completing the tutorial, you will not be able to meet with your adviser. After submitting your tutorial quiz results, please make sure to print and fill out your Open University form so that you can have your courses approved by your disqualification adviser during your appointment.

It is in your best interest to take the time to learn all of this important information, as it will prepare you for your disqualification appointment and will prevent you from making serious mistakes. In the past, some disqualified students have made mistakes that prevented them from qualifying for reinstatement, registering in Open University or reapplying to the university.

Disqualification Appointments
All newly disqualified students must schedule an appointment in order to meet with a disqualification adviser. Since there are a limited number of disqualification advisers available and over 900 disqualified students to advise, appointments are limited to students who are disqualified at the end of the current spring or current fall semester. Previously disqualified students must wait until late August or mid-February to schedule an appointment. During this peak advising period, you have only one opportunity to schedule an appointment. If you cancel or do not show up for an appointment, you will have to wait until August or mid-February to see an adviser. Appointments are 30 minutes long and are scheduled back to back in order to accommodate the high number of students that we must advise. If you arrive 15 or more minutes late, you will be considered a no-show.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean to be disqualified?
Disqualification means that you have been dismissed (kicked out) from the university because you did not maintain the minimum grade point average required for your class level. Once disqualified, you can no longer register for classes through Titan Online. The only option you have to continue taking degree credit courses at CSUF after you are disqualified, is to petition for classes through Open University.

What do I do if I am disqualified?
Once you are disqualified, the University Registrar will send you a disqualification letter to inform you about your academic status and the steps you must take in order to qualify for readmission to the university(View/Print Spring ’09 disqualification letter) As stated in the disqualification letter, all disqualified students must complete the mandatory disqualification tutorial before they can schedule an online advising appointment by going to www.fullerton.edu/aac/Academic_Disqualification. During your appointment, you will learn about your options after disqualification, and will have your disqualification hold waived so that you can enroll in credit courses through Open University. All disqualified students have an automatic disqualification hold, which prevents them from registering for any courses until they receive disqualification advising. You must get registration approval from your disqualification adviser for every term you enroll in Open University. The registration hold will be removed after you are readmitted to CSUF.
