Upper Division General Education (GE) Requirement

All students, transfer or native, must complete 9 units of upper division GE from the approved list of GE courses. Classes offered by the department of the student's major may not be used to satisfy this requirement. For example, an Afro-Ethnic Studies major may not use AFRO311 to satisfy GE requirements but the Human Services major may use it, even though the class may apply to the major for both students.

Upper Division Baccalaureate Writing Requirement:

The university requires that all students completing bachelor's degrees demonstrate writing ability acceptable for graduation. The upper division writing requirement has two parts and each must be fulfilled in order to earn the degree

Upper Division Writing Course

Each major at CSU Fullerton has designated one or more courses as satisfying the upper division writing requirement for the baccalaureate degree. Click here to view a list of contacts for undergraduate majors and concentrations.

Junior Level Examination in Writing Proficiency (EWP)

Students take the EWP after completing 60 units toward the baccalaureate degree. If a student fails the EWP, the student may retake the exam until a passing score is achieved. A limited number of students who fail the EWP two or more times may enroll in ENGL 199, Intensive Writing Review. Credit in ENGL 199 will be equivalent to passing the examination. This course does not earn units toward tje degree, nor will it satisfy the upper division writing course requirement described above. Information about EWP test dates and registration may be found in the class schedule or by visiting the Testing Center website (www.fullerton.edu/testing).

Grad Check

Once the student reaches senior status (90 units), the student is eligible to submit a grad check. Ideally, the grad check should be submitted approximately one year in advance of graduation. This is the final review of the student's records to officially confirm what the student must do to fulfill remaining requirements for the bachelor's degree. The grad check is first completed by Admissions & Records where general education requirements are reviewed. Next an advisor in the student's major reviews the grad check for remaining requirements for the major.

The Grad Check request form may be obtained in the Academic Advisement Center (UH 123) or in Admissions & Records, LH 114.
