Mandatory Advisement

All first-time freshmen must receive academic advisement prior to registering for classes. Advisement holds on the computer prevent students from registering. Mandatory advisement holds are cleared by attending New Student Orientation.

New Student Orientation (NSO).
Freshman NSO sessions take place in June and July.

At the NSO sessions freshmen:

Learn about General Education Requirements
Learn about Baccalaureate Degree Requirements
Obtain clarification regarding courses they are required to take in the fall term
Learn how to read the course schedule
Plan their Fall schedules in consultation with CSUF academic advisors
Learn about their colleges and majors.
Receive information about Titan Card and ID
Receive a Fall Class Schedule

The most important advantage to attending Freshman NSO is that students have the opportunity to register for fall classes at the end of the session. Students who register at NSO are among the first students to register for the fall term and therefore have the best opportunity to get an optimal schedule.
