General Education Course List
General Education provides the foundation for the university education.
It is designed to give students a breadth of knowledge and understanding
across the major disciplines of science, social science, arts and
humanities. It is also designed to help students develop such lifelong
skills as critical thinking and writing. Each area of GE has
its own set of learning goals. Click
here to view the Goals of General Education in the University
Catalogue.
Organization of GE Course Requirements
The GE program is organized in the following manner:
Unit Requirements

- 9 units of GE using upper division courses (300-400 level courses)
taken as a junior or senior
- 9 units of GE in residence (taken at CSU Fullerton)

*, is a cultural diversity class)
- 9 units maximum from a single department, excluding any units

in the GE program
- Each course counts in one area only, except those meeting Area
Z, Cultural Diversity

Academic Standards
- All courses applied to GE requirements must be taken for a letter
grade.
- Credit/No Credit (CR/NC) grade option may only be used if that
is the only option available.
- A grade of C (2.0) or better is required for A1 (Oral Communication),
A2 (Written Communication), A3 (Critical Thinking) and B4
(Mathematics).
Courses in your
Major:
- Courses offered by the department of the student's major may NOT be used to fulfill the unit requirements in Areas B, C, D, E or Z with the exception of areas offering chioces from only
one department.
- Courses offered by the department of the student's minor and
second listed major may be used for GE
- Courses that are cross-listed meet General Education requirements
for all majors except those in the home department of the cross-listed
course. The "home" department is the one under which
the course description appears in the catalog. For example, LING
is the "home" department for LING441/ENGL441;
therefore, it may not be used by Linguistics majors.
- Upper-division courses offered by the department of the students
major may NOT be used for upper division General Education
credit.

Understanding Your
GE Status: Titan Degree Audit
The best way for all students to track their progress toward their
degree is to regularly consult their Titan Degree Audit (TDA). The
TDA indicates those requirements for GE and for the major which
have been met, and those that are yet to be completed. Students
can access their personal TDA by going to their student portal and
logging on to TITAN Online. From there, the student selects "Student
Academics" to find the TDA option. For more information on your TDA click here

Allowable Double
Counts with Majors
Students may not use a class for GE that is offered by their major
department. For example, ENGL 341 is on the list of approved GE
courses. A student majoring in English is not allowed to use ENGL
341 to satisfy a GE requirement. On the other hand, a Liberal Studies
major is allowed to use the class both for GE and for the major
requirement because the class is not offered by the Liberal Studies
Department. Click here to find possible
GE double counts for the various majors.
Approved GE Course List
Courses are regularly added and deleted from the approved list of
GE courses each year. Sometimes GE courses are approved for one
area of GE for a period of time, but then are moved to another
area of GE. Students will be credited with satisfying the GE
requirement if the course met the requirement in the semester the
class was taken. Click
here to determine if a course is an approved GE class and for
the GE history of the course.
It is important to get an updated list of approved GE courses every semester.
