APARC History

2004

  • Memo sent to Dean of HSS from ASAM Ad Hoc Committee requesting support:
    • Provide support for at-risk APA students (advisement and academic support)
    • Help outreach to underrepresented APA groups and become partners for institutional grants

2007

  • Possible development paths for the center along with Connecting Communities project were drafted by Dr. Reyes
  • Helped outreach to underrepresented APA groups and become partners for institutional grants
  • Proposed for Space (AAPICRC: Asian American Pacific Islander Community Resource Center)

2008

  • Dr. Yee became chair of the AAPICRC Committee
  • Established mission/vision for the center
  • Open House held in December
    • Over 100 attendees (elected officials, community & university leaders, faculty & staff, and students)
  • Mihaylo Hall designated UH210B/211B for the center

2009

  • Furniture (Sonia Velez, Dr. Yee, Associate Dean Palmerino)
  • $10,000 from anonymous donor
  • Keyless Entry System (Priority)
  • Dr. Yee stepped down as chair
  • AAPICRC planning put on hold

2010

  • AAPIL participants (students) contacted Dr. Yee to design student lounge in UH211B
    • Proposal was approved by Dr. Yee and ASAM Faculty
    • Soft opening

2012

  • Dr. Haddad found funding for center
