The STEER Program 

The program ended in 2022.

Our mission is to enhance the quantity and quality of undergraduates who will join the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) workforce.  To do this, California State University Fullerton (CSUF) is implementing Scholarships to Enhance Excellence in the Chemical and Biological Research-Based Workforce (STEER).

The STEER Program recruits and supports students in becoming highly qualified members of the STEM workforce through activities that (1) provide opportunities for students to enrich their understanding of the nature of scientific inquiry through research experiences in biology, chemistry, and biochemistry, (2) develop technical knowledge with supported experiences in research laboratories, and (3) facilitate the use of information and techniques in research to improve competency in industry.

Who Should Apply?

Candidates who meet the following criteria are encouraged to apply:

1) Are pursuing a major in biology, chemistry, or biochemistry.

2) Have a minimum GPA of 2.75

3) Students enrolled in 12 or more units each semester

4) Have completed a FAFSA and are eligible for financial aid (have remaining finanical need)

5) Are a United States citizen or permanent resident

STEER Program Stipends

If selected, you will receive annual stipends of $6,926 and have the opporunity for support to take classes in summer and/or intersession. This will offer you the opportunity to devote full time to learning science and introduce you to the biotechnological industry. Throughout all the phases of the program you will experience a support system that includes science faculty, peers, and CSUF Alumni. This support system will enable you to build upon your undergraduate experiences and be successful in a position in the biotechnology industry.
