Disneyland Resort Scholarship Program

The Disneyland® Resort Scholarship Program – Celebrating Community Service, will award $5,000 scholarships to ten high school seniors who have demonstrated excellence in volunteerism and leadership and who are committed to making a difference in our community.

By granting scholarships to students who strive to improve our community, the Disneyland® Resort aims to make the dream of attending college or a professional trade school a reality.

Criteria

• Resident of Orange County, California
• Currently attending an Orange County public or private high school
• Graduating high school senior pursuing higher education
• Have volunteered 100 hours or more between January 1- December 31 through a charitable nonprofit organization*
• Have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (most recent transcript required)
• Provide verification from the predominant charitable nonprofit organization with which you volunteer

Best Buy

Amount: $10,000 or $1,500

A great education is the foundation for success. At Best Buy, we believe academic achievement and volunteerism are equally important. That's why the Best Buy Scholarship Program rewards students for all of their homework; inside and outside of the classroom.

Recipients are selected based on their volunteer efforts, work experience and academic achievements. Since 1999 Best Buy has awarded over $10 million in scholarship to more than 9,000 students. Scholarships go to graduating high school seniors Students must attend a college, university or vocational school in the fall immediately following graduation.

The Dell Scholars Program

Amount: $20,000

The Dell Scholars Program is an initiative of the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation. The Dell Scholars Program is a need-based scholarship that recognizes academic potential in under served and low-income students. The program is offered to those high school students participating in an approved AVID program. The funding for each Dell Scholar is substantial: $20,000. The value of these 250 scholarships equals $5.0 million. MSDF believes that funding a significant percentage of their college expenses will enable these students to focus on their college studies and complete their bachelor program.

Elks National Foundation

Most Valuable Student Competition

Deadline: January 9 (deadline varies)

Amount: $4,000 - $60,000 (four year awards - $1,000 - $15,000 yearly)

Any high school senior who is a citizen of the United States is eligible to apply. Applicants need not be related to a member of the Elks. College students are not eligible to apply. Applicants must be citizens of the United States on the date their applications are signed; resident alien status does not qualify. Male and female students compete separately. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need.

The Gates Millennium Scholars Program

The Bill Gates Foundation initially started the GMS award in 1999 with a one billion dollar grant. The goal of the Bill Gates scholarship is to reduce financial barriers to higher education for minority groups. Whether awarding scholarship money for aspiring students or improving the standard of living in a third-world country, the Gates Foundation provides resources to help people enjoy healthier, more productive lives. The foundation provides outstanding African American, American Indian/Alaska Natives, Asian Pacific Islander Americans, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education, in all discipline areas and a graduate education for those students pursuing studies in mathematics, science, engineering, education, or library science. The Gates Millennium Scholars is funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and is sometimes referred to as the Bill Gates Scholarship.

The Beverage Industry College Scholarship

Amount: $1,500 to $5,000

Scholarships will be awarded to children, grandchildren, or legal guardians, of persons who currently hold full time employment with, or who are proprietor of, a company holding a valid California liquor, beer or wine license. This includes restaurants, hotels, retail wholesale grocery establishments, airlines, breweries, wineries, distributors, etc.

American Meteorological Society (AMS)

Limited to Hispanic, African American, or Native American freshmen planning a career in atmospheric science. Transcripts, standardized test scores, and a letter of recommendation are required.

Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Scholarship Program

The RMHC Scholarship Program provides academic scholarships to high school seniors. Applications are accepted from Hispanic high school seniors who reside in participating markets (call the toll-free number or check website for a complete list of participating areas).

Burger King Scholars Program

Students may apply from public, private, vocational, technical, parochial and alternative high schools throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Applicants must be high school seniors who:

Maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent. Work part-time an average of 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year (unless individual circumstances prevent the student's involvement). Demonstrate participation in community service and/or co-curricular activities. Demonstrate financial need. Plan to enroll in an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school by the fall term of the graduating year. This program is for students whose major or principal area of study is advertising, architecture, environmental graphics, fashion design, filmmaking, fine arts, furniture design, graphic design, illustration, interior design, or landscape architecture. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement, recommendations, and references. Students must show exceptional promise in their chosen field, have an interest in using their profession to give back to society, and be prepared to examine issues of cultural identity in submitted work. Sallie Mae Fund Unmet Need Scholarship

The Unmet Need Scholarship program is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents who are accepted or enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at approved, accredited institutions. Students must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) to be eligible to apply. Recipients will be selected based on financial need.

The Science Talent Search (STS) is America's oldest and most highly regarded science contest for high school seniors. Created in 1942 by Science Service and Westinghouse as a means for encouraging talented high school students to pursue a career in science or engineering, the Science Talent Search has become an American institution.

American Harlequin Corporation Dance Scholarship

In an effort to provide better opportunities for young people pursuing performing arts careers, American Harlequin established an annual "Dance Scholarship Program." Our first annual program in 1999 resulted in $10,000 in scholarship monies being awarded. Now we award $25,000 each year to twenty lucky individuals. Just as we did in previous years, since we are not in a position to judge the artistic merits or financial situation of the applicants, we will have a random drawing to select the winners.We leave the nominations to you, the teachers, to make a judgment about the students you support. Our hope is to offer a little financial help to some lucky young people who wish to continue in whatever form of dance helps fulfill their lives. All the applicant information must be filled in. The certification is then to be completed by the dance instructor.
