Services offered at the VRC

Community College Campus Visit

The VRC invites prospective students from surrounding community colleges to a half-day visit to CSUF to provide information about the transfer process, meet CSUF student veterans and the VRC staff, and to hear about how the VRC can support their academic, personal and occupational success.

Admitted student Welcome Dinner 

The VRC invites newly admitted students to a specifically designed event for veterans to help them successfully transition to CSUF and campus life.

Peer Transition Leaders

Each semester, new transfer students are assigned a transition leader to assist them with them with their transition to campus.

Open House

The VRC holds an Open House during the campus Discoverfest and during the Identity Based Resource Centers’ Open House event.

Student Lounge/Computer Lab

The VRC provides a student lounge and computer lab M-Th 8-6:45 and F 8-5 for student veterans and dependents equipped with couches, refrigerator, and free coffee.

Onsite Personal and Mental Health Counseling

Individual counseling is offered M-F 8-5 for student veterans and dependents.

Discussion Groups

Vet Talks, Women Veteran Discussion Group, and Spouse Talks (for military/veteran significant others) are weekly groups offered to support camaraderie, networking, mentoring, and social engagement.

Veteran Scholarship for Success

The VRC offers 2 $1000 scholarships for continuing students. It is offered in the Spring for the Fall semester.

Childcare Stipend

The VRC offers childcare stipends in the amount of $500 paid directly to the CSUF Children’s Center for students that do not qualify for subsidized childcare (distributed on a first-come-first serve basis and as funds are available).

Exit Session

The VRC offers an information session during the Fall semester for students expected to graduate in the Spring to assist with required graduation processes.

VETNET Ally Seminar

The VRC holds this awareness raising seminar twice a semester for faculty and staff to share with them the student veteran experience and ways to be supportive on campus.

Classroom Presentations 

The VRC professional and student staff offer classroom presentations upon request throughout the academic year.

Connection to on-campus and off-campus resource providers

The VRC provides student veterans and dependents resource referrals to on-campus and off-campus services providers.

Families and Friends of Service Members/Veterans

This group is open to CSUF family and friends of veterans and/or active duty service members. We will meet weekly to share our experiences, support one another, and learn about issues that are unique to military life, after military life and relationships.
