What does it meant to teach GE at CSUF?
Teaching General Education at CSUF means being committed to the principle of a well-rounded education for all University students and contributing to that education by sharing one’s disciplinary knowledge with non-major students as well as major students.
By teaching General Education, faculty ensure that our graduates can fully and effectively participate in professional and civic life by drawing on both professional skills honed through their major discipline and a wide range of practical and intellectual skills that span many disciplines.These skills include critical thinking, effective communication, analytical thinking, and the ability to consider multiple perspectives, as is increasingly necessary in our complex, diverse and globally oriented society.

What is GE Assessment?
Led by the Senate GE Committee, the Office of Undergraduate Studies and General Education and the Office of Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness, CSUF has piloted and implemented a multi-year assessment plan for the General Education Program since the 2015-16 academic year. The intention is to assess GE as an integral program as opposed to assessing individual courses. For more information, go to the GE Assessment page.
What is AAC&U?
The mission of the American Association of Colleges and Universities is to make a liberal education and inclusive excellence the foundation for institutional purpose and educational practice in higher education.
Through over 30 years of intense attention to GE, AAC&U GE initiatives continue to be designed to allow every undergraduate student to experience a relevant and rigorous GE curriculum. In addition to working with individual campuses to improve their GE programs, AAC&U aims to strengthen GE for transfer students, ensuring the curricula maintain high expectations and meaningful assessment of learning, and GE is seen as essential for enhancing curricula and pedagogy.
What is WASC?
The WASC Senior College and University Commision (WSCUC), is CSUF's accrediting body.
"The WASC Senior College and University Commission is a regional accrediting agency serving a diverse membership of public and private higher education institutions throughout California, Hawaii, and the Pacific as well as a limited number of institutions outside the United States. Through its work of peer review, based on standards agreed to by the membership, the Commission encourages continuous institutional improvement and assures the membership and its constituencies, including the public, that accredited institutions are fulfilling their missions in service to their students and the public good."
