Food and Snacks
  • Store food in sealed containers (plastic bins, jars, or resealable bags).
  • Avoid leaving food out  overnight—even small crumbs attract pests.
  • Clean dishes promptly  after eating; don’t leave them in the sink.
Trash and Recycling
  • Take out your trash regularly—especially if it contains food.
  • Use trash bags that tie shut  to prevent odors and leaks.
  • Rinse recyclables(like soda cans or bottles) before putting them in bins.
Cleaning Habits
  • Wipe down counters and desks  to remove crumbs or spills.
  • Vacuum or sweep floors weekly  to keep dirt and food particles away.
  • Don’t let laundry pile up—dirty clothes can attract pests, too.

Room and Personal Belongings
  • Keep clutter to a minimum  so pests have fewer hiding spots.
  • Check bags and boxes  before bringing them inside (especially after traveling).
  • Avoid propping doors/windows open—it gives bugs an easy way in.
Bathrooms and Shared Spaces
  • Hang up wet towels  and avoid leaving damp clothes on the floor.
  • Keep shower drains clear  and rinse sinks after use.
  • Report leaks or standing water  to housing staff immediately.
If You See Pests
  • Don’t try to handle infestations yourself(sprays can be unsafe indoors).
  • Notify Housing staff right away  so we can address the issue quickly.

Tips for a Comfortable Room Smiley Face

Windows and Doors
  • Keep windows closed  when the A/C or heat is on — open windows make the system work harder and less effective.
  • Don’t prop doors open  for long periods — it lets in heat, cold, and humidity that affect your room comfort.

Thermostat and Vents

  • Don’t block vents  with furniture, bags, or clothing — air needs to flow freely.
  • The adjustment of the A/C unit in the apartments manually is a policy violation

Airflow and Cleanliness

  • Avoid hanging items on vents or sprinklers    (it blocks airflow and is a safety issue).
  • Keep space around vents clear    — at least a foot of open space helps circulation.
  • Dust regularly    around vents and windowsills to prevent buildup.

Moisture and Humidity
  • Don’t run humidifiers  — too much moisture attracts pests and causes mildew and are against Housing policy.
  • Report leaks, drips, or unusual humidity    (like condensation on windows) to Housing staff.
Energy and Comfort
  • Use curtains or blinds    to block direct sunlight and keep your room cooler.
  • Turn off lights and electronics    when not in use — they generate heat that makes A/C work harder.
If Something Feels Off

If your room is too hot, too cold, or the system seems loud or not working,   submit a maintenance request   right away so staff can check it.

To comply with LEED certification and energy efficiency standards, building temperatures cannot be set below 74°F to reduce energy consumption and align with ASHRAE comfort guidelines.
