Sergio Torres

Sergio Torres research topic as an undergraduate at California State University Fullerton was focused on Mexican American/Chicanx inspired murals in Santa Ana, California. Most people in his community do not learn about Mexican/Chicano history through history books, they learn about it through art murals. Sergio senior research project explores and analyzes these murals as part of the material culture of Native-descended Chicanx peoples in Santa Ana. Murals in Southern California that blend Indigenous heritage with contemporary Mexican American/Chicano culture inspire Chicanx youth to connect to their Indigenous roots and reflect on the meaning of their identities.
