Student Employment Opportunities

The University Learning Center hires currently enrolled undergraduate sophomore and junior CSUF students for tutor positions. Applications to be a ULC tutor must be submitted through our online job posting.

To be considered for hire, tutors must:

  • Be at least or are going to be a third-semester student.
  • Have and maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA.
  • Have earned a B or better in the General Education courses that we offer, verified by Titan Degree Audit.
  • Submit a letter of recommendation, preferably from a CSUF faculty member filled out on our University Learning Center Tutor Recommendation Form.
  • Fill out and attach our ULC application addendum with your online application.
  • Email your resume to ulc@fullerton.edu

In addition, we have a thorough interview and reference check process, and upon selection, ask for an academic year commitment. Our tutors have a twice-a-year retreat and monthly tutor training. We interview in May, and train in August for the start of the Academic year. Elsewhere on this site is the list of GE subjects we tutor - please refer to that first before filling out and submitting an application for tutor consideration.

The benefits of working for the ULC is that we are a community of learners. We provide paid tutor training each month using the topics suggested by the College Reading and Learning Association, as that is the sponsor of our International Tutor Training Program Certification. We offer an hourly wage higher than the minimum and work around your schedule. Tutors have the first and last week of the semester off, as well as fall and spring recess. In short, we are a great place to work!

Toward the end of each academic year, we ask graduating students to recruit their replacement. Our receptionists and tutors are our best ambassadors for the work we enjoy! We also contact departments for potential tutor recommendations for courses for which we tutor. We accept applications at any time, and candidates selected for the next academic year are invited to an interview during spring finals week. Notification of employment acceptance will occur when all references have been contacted and grades have been posted.

Cal State Fullerton celebrates all forms of diversity and is deeply committed to fostering an inclusive environment within which students, staff, administrators and faculty thrive. Individuals interested in advancing the University’s strategic diversity goals are strongly encouraged to apply. Reasonable accommodations will be provided for qualified applicants with disabilities who self-disclose.
