UCP Voicemail Hints & Tips

Quick Tips

  • To by-pass someone’s voicemail greeting, hit # and you’ll go directly to the recording tone.
  • When recording a message or greeting, you should pause for a split-second at the end of your recording before pressing #. Otherwise, voicemail may cut off the last part of your recording.
  • Pressing * will normally cancel what you are doing or return you to the previous menu.
  • To by-pass the “header” of a voicemail message, simply press # and you will be taken to the body of the message. This means you do not have to listen to the lady read the header information that tells you who called and at what time. You can always play this information later by pressing 6 while you are listening to the message.
  • Dial 6525 (on campus only) and enter the extension number of someone on campus. It will dial directly into their mailbox and you can leave a message without ringing their phone.

Playback Controls

While listening to the body of a voicemail message (not the header), the following keys are available by pressing the # (pound) key: The pound key is a toggle key; press it to turn the controls on or off.

[1] Volume Down
[4] Faster Speed
[7] Rewind 10 seconds
[2] Volume Up
[5] Slower Speed
[8] Pause for 20 seconds
[3] Normal Volume
[6] Normal Speed
[9] Fast Forward 10 seconds

Once you activate these playback controls, you will need to either wait until the end of the message or press # again to return to the normal control keys.

Change Location

Many users find that the wrong greeting is playing because of the inadvertent use of this feature. Use the change location feature to change which greeting you want calles to hear. When you are "in office," the sytem will play your personal greeting. When you are in "at home," the system will play your at home greeting, etc.

Press 5 at the Main Menu in voicemail to change your location.

If you opt to not use location greetings, you should remain in “in office ” at all times. You are not required to change your location if you do not wish to use this feature.
