Virtual Computer Lab

The Virtual Computer Lab (VCL) is a service for CSUF students, faculty, and staff to run university-licensed programs via the Internet. To get started, log into the VCL and make a reservation to connect to a computer.

VCL Login  

Instructions for Windows Users

  1. Click VCL Login button above, and log in with your CSUF Portal username and password.
  2. Once logged in, click Reservations on the left sidebar.
  3. Select the environment that corresponds to the software you'd like to connect to. 
  4. Select when you would like to connect to the environment. You may connect for up to four hours.
    If the environment is not available, please select another time or try again later.
  5. After making your reservation, your reservation status will be shown as "Pending" until it is available.
  6. Click the "Connect!" button when it appears next to your reservation.
  7. When the Connect window appears, click "Get RDP File."
  8. When the pop-up window appears, click "OK."
  9. Enter your user ID and password from the Connect window and click the “OK” button.
  10. A Remote Desktop Connection window may appear. Click "Yes" to begin your session.

Instructions for Mac Users

Before connecting to the VCL, please download the free Microsoft Remote DesktopOpens in new window  app from the App Store. You will need to log in using your own Apple iTunes account to download the app.

  1. Click VCL Login button above, and log in with your CSUF Portal username and password.
  2. Once logged in, click Reservations on the left sidebar.
  3. Select the environment that corresponds to the software you'd like to connect to.
  4. Select when you would like to connect to the environment. You may connect for up to four hours.
    If the environment is not available, please select another time or try again later.
  5. After making your reservation, your reservation status will be shown as "Pending" until it is available.
  6. When the "Connect!" button appears next to your reservation, click the button.
  7. When the Connect window appears, click "Get RDP File" to download the RDP file.
  8. Open the RDP file and click "Continue."
  9. Enter your user ID and password from the Connect window, then click "Continue" to begin your session.

 Requirements 

The VCL can run on a Windows PC (32 bit or 64 bit), Mac, Linux, or ChromeBook. To ensure a stable connection to the VCL, use reliable high-speed internet.

  • Windows: No additional software needed
  • Mac: Download the free Microsoft Remote Desktop AppOpens in new window  from the App Store
  • Chromebook: Download and install the Microsoft Remote Desktop app from the Google Play Store
