These scholarships have been established to assist students majoring in the College of Business and Economics (CBE). Unless otherwise noted, all of the following scholarships are awarded in the Spring semester. Application deadline is normally March 2. Further information can be obtained from the College office and from the departments within the College.

Note: For all scholarships, the notification process does not include a notification to all applicants but only to the selected recipient of the scholarship. The expected date of notification is by the end of April.

 

Stephen J. Barres Leadership Award

Amount: $500

Established by: This scholarship was established to honor Stephen J. Barres, founding Chair of the Management department.

Open to: This scholarship is open to currently enrolled undergraduate students in the Bachelor of Administration major of the College of Business and Economics.

Criteria: Demonstrated leadership at CSUF

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Provide one letter of recommendation from CSUF faculty/staff demonstrating leadership through scholarship and other activities; and 3) Submit completed application (not handwritten) and letter of recommendation to LH-700.

College of Business and Economics Alumni Scholarship

Amount: Two $2,500 scholarships

Established by: This scholarship was established by the College’s Alumni to recognize and honor students who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance.

Open to: This scholarship is open to new and continuing undergraduate Pre-Business or Business Administration students. Graduating students (January, May or August) are not eligible.

Criteria: 3.25 Cumulative GPA • Full-time enrollment • Involvement in the University, College or Community

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions and sign the certification; and 2) Submit application to LH-700.

Application Deadline: March 2

 

Dean’s Advisory Board Awards

Amount: Four $4,000 awards

Established by: These four awards were established by the Colleges’ Dean’s Advisory Board to recognize academic achievement, leadership, volunteerism and financial need. Each award will cover recipients’ educational fees, parking and books for two semesters. No cash will be awarded. Instead, upon presentation of receipts, you will be reimbursed. The selected recipient(s) will be honored at the Colleges’ Awards ceremony.

Open to: This scholarship is open to full-time, continuing business school students enrolled in the College of Business and Economics Honors Program; graduating students and previous awardees are not eligible.

Criteria (General): 3.5 GPA • Honor’s Program Participation • Criteria for individual scholarship award as described below

Additional Criteria for:
1) Outstanding Honor’s Student Award: Highest GPA, if a tie, demonstrated leadership on or off campus
2) Honor’s Student Support Award: Financial need
3) Outstanding Volunteerism Award: Demonstrated involvement in volunteer work, either at the CBE, on campus, and/or in the community
4) Outstanding Leadership Award: Demonstrated leadership within the College, on campus and/or in the community

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; and
2) Submit completed application to LH-700.

Executive Council Outstanding Student Award

Amount: Up to $2,500

Established by: This scholarship is funded by the College of Business and Economics (CBE) Executive Council to recognize an outstanding graduating senior. The College’s Scholarship Committee analyzes all applications; the Executive Council Awards Committee interviews three finalists and makes the final choice.

Open to: This scholarship is open to graduating BA candidates in Business or Economics.

Criteria: Scholastic achievement • Extra-curricular activities • Leadership

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Provide one letter of support from CSUF faculty, staff, or administration; and 3) Submit application materials to LH-700.

Faith Guthrie Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

Established by: This endowed scholarship was created by John Guthrie in memory of his grandmother, Faith Guthrie, to support the efforts of students that demonstrate outstanding academic performance while working to fund their education.

Open to: This scholarship is open to new and continuing business students who are pursuing an undergraduate business degree while working a minimum of 30 hours per week. Graduating students (Jan., May or Aug.) are not eligible.

Criteria: 3.0 GPA • Full-time • Financial need description

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Include statement of financial need; and 3) Submit completed application to LH-700.

Alan A. Mannason MBA Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

Established by: This scholarship was established by Mr. Alan Mannason and his grandson, Mr. Ian Carpe to recognize MBA students and to assist students with their registration fees and book expenses. If you are selected, you will be required to attend the annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony held in May.

Open to: This scholarship is open to continuing MBA students, enrolled in a minimum of 9 units per semester, who have completed their MBA first year; graduating students (January, May or August) are not eligible.

Criteria: 3.3 GPA • 9 units of enrollment • Quality of essay

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answer all seven questions, and sign the certification; and 2) Write a 500-word essay that describes the impact that earning an MBA degree will have on your professional goals; and 3) Submit application materials to LH-700.

Samuel Mendoza Memorial Scholarship

Amount: $500

Established by: This scholarship is funded by the CSUF faculty, staff and alumni in memory of Samuel Mendoza, a highly respected career counselor and advisor to the Latino Business Student Association.

Open to: This scholarship is open to members of the Latino Business Student Association at Cal State Fullerton.

Criteria: Good academic standing • Extra-curricular activities • Student leadership

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; and 2) Submit the application to LH-700.

Professor for a Day Scholarship

Amount: Two $1,500 awards

Established by: This scholarship is funded by the College’s alumni and business professionals who participate in the annual Professor for a Day event.

Open to: This scholarship is open to all undergraduate and graduate Business Administration, International Business and Economics majors.

Criteria: 3.25 GPA • Campus involvement • Community involvement • Essay

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Prepare a brief essay discussing how campus/community involvement has developed and/or enhanced your interpersonal skills; and 3) Submit application materials to LH-700.

Theodore H. Smith Outstanding Graduate Student Award

Amount: $1,000

Established by: This scholarship is funded by a memorial trust account to honor Theodore H. Smith, founding Dean of College of Business and Economics (CBE).

Open to: This scholarship is open to graduating MBA or MA candidates.

Criteria: Scholastic achievement • Extra-curricular activities • Community involvement

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Obtain one letter of support from CSUF faculty or administration; and 3) Submit application materials to LH-700.

Frank P. Stanek Continuing Junior Scholarship

Amount: Two $1,000 awards

Established by: This scholarship was established by Frank P. Stanek, an alumnus of the College of Business & Economics, and president of Stanek Global Advisors.

Open to: This scholarship is open to continuing Business Administration juniors (must have completed a minimum of 75 units with 15 of these units completed at CSUF).

Criteria: GPA • Extracurricular activities • Work and community involvement

Kathleen Taylor Business Scholarship

Amount: $3,000

Established by: This scholarship was established and funded by CBE alumna Kathleen Taylor, Class of 1982, and awarded to a student to assist with educational expenses. The recipient may not receive more than $5,000 in total scholarship money per year, excluding grants and loans. Funds must be used for the designated academic year and may not be transferred to another school. Scholarship will be awarded each May and $1,500 will be distributed to the student at the beginning of the following Fall and Spring semesters.

Open to: This scholarship is open to new and continuing undergraduate Business Administration students who will be returning as full-time, upper-division students. Graduating students are not eligible.

Criteria: 2.75 GPA • Full-time (minimum 12 units per semester) • Participation in activities either at CSUF or in the community (including work) • Essay

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, pasting into a word document, taking care to answer all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Write a short essay on “Who is your Role Model and Why?” and 3) Submit completed application and essay to LH-700.

Francisco J. Valle Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

Established by: This scholarship is funded by Mr. Valle, a CBE alumnus, to assist students who are pursuing an undergraduate degree. The CBE Scholarship Committee selects the recipient with final approval by Mr. Valle.

Open to: This scholarship is open to continuing undergraduate Business Administration majors who are members of the Latino Business Students Association.

Criteria: 3.0 GPA • Good academic standing • Financial need

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application (or have one on file) for establishing financial need; and 3) Submit application to LH-700.

Yokohama Tire Corporation Scholarship

Amount: Three $500 awards

Established by: This scholarship was established by the Yokohama Tire Corporation to encourage scholarship and to support business education at Cal State Fullerton.

Open to: This scholarship is open to full-time senior level, continuing Business Administration students with at least one semester full-time enrollment (12 units) remaining to complete degree. Must not be receiving any other Scholarship.

Criteria: Full-time enrollment

ACCOUNTING

Cynthia A. Brown Memorial Scholarship

Amount: $500 - $1,000

Established by: This scholarship is funded from a memorial trust account to honor Cynthia A. Brown and was established by her father to encourage scholarship at her alma mater.

Open to: This scholarship is open to continuing Accounting concentration students who are entering their senior year.

Criteria: Scholastic achievement • Extra-curricular activities • Community activities

Financial Executives Award

Amount: $500

Established by: This scholarship is awarded annually by the Financial Executives Institute.

Open to: This scholarship is open to senior or graduate students in Finance or Accounting concentrations.

Tax Executives Institute, Inc. Orange County Chapter

Amount: $1,000

Established by: This scholarship is funded by the Tax Executives Institute, Inc., Orange County Chapter.

Open to: This scholarship is open to graduate students in the Master’s in Taxation program.

Criteria: Academic achievement • Financial need

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (or have one on file) for establishing financial need; and 3) Submit the application to LH-700.

Various Other Accounting Awards Open to Juniors and Seniors

Established by: Each year, the Accounting Department extends 10-15 awards and scholarships to Accounting concentration juniors and seniors.

Economics Faculty Student Achievement Award

Amount: $200

Established by: This award was established by the Economics Faculty to recognize a student’s outstanding academic achievement and performance with distinction in the classroom.

Open to: This scholarship is open to all undergraduate Economics majors.

Criteria: Outstanding student achievement

Economics Outstanding Graduate Student Award

Amount: $500

Established by: This scholarship is awarded annually by the Economics Department to provide recognition for outstanding scholastic achievement, demonstrated intellectual growth and development, and participation in departmental activities.

Criteria: Scholastic achievement • Departmental participation

Amount: Wall Street Journal subscription (one year)

Established by: This scholarship is awarded annually to an economics major, based on exceptional academic performance and extra-curricular activities. An engraved gift with subscription is awarded from the Wall Street Journal.

Open to: This scholarship is open to all undergraduate Economics majors.

Emeriti Faculty and Staff Award

Amount: $100

Established by: This award was established by the Economics Department to recognize outstanding academic achievement, leadership and service.

Formuzis-Pickersgill-Hunt Student Paper Award

Amount: First Prize $500, Second Prize $300, Third Prize $200

Established by: These scholarships were established by the Formuzis, Pickersgill & Hunt Economic Consulting firm. Submitted papers will be judged by the Economic Department’s Student Affairs Committee for the undergraduate awards and by the Graduate Committee for the graduate students’ awards.

Open to: This scholarship is open to undergraduate students enrolled in an Economics class and graduate students in Economics.

Criteria: Outstanding written paper

Levern Graves Award

Amount: $300

Established by: This award was established by the Economics Department to honor Professor Levern Graves, one of the founding faculty members of the CSUF Economics Department to recognize outstanding academic achievement and service to the department.

Klein Family Awards

Amount: $50

Established by: Two awards were established by Emeritus Professor Sidney Klein in honor of his family. One award recognizes the outstanding undergraduate student each year in Economics 330 (Comparative Economic Systems) and the other award recognizes the outstanding student in Economics 332 (Economies of the Pacific Rim).

Open to: This scholarship is open to students enrolled in Economics 330 or Economics 332 classes.

Criteria: Course grade of A in Economics 330 or Economics 332 • Academic achievement

Stewart Long Award for Outstanding New Graduate Students

Amount: $1,500

Established by: This scholarship was established in honor of Professor Stewart Long, former Chair of the Economics Department, to attract outstanding students to the Economics MA program at CSUF.

Open to: This scholarship is open to newly accepted students into the Economics MA at Cal State Fullerton.

Criteria: Acceptance to Economics MA program • Past academic achievement • GRE scores, if available

Application Procedure: 1) Submit application for admission to Cal State Fullerton’s Master’s Program in Economics (no separate scholarship application is necessary); 2) Provide three confidential letters of recommendation as required for MA admission; 3) Submit a two-page essay on the motivation and the purpose of a graduate student at CSUF; 4) Include official GRE scores; and 5) Submit all materials to LH-702.

Stewart Long Graduate Study Award

Amount: $1,500

Established by: This scholarship was established in honor of Professor Stewart Long, former Chair of the Economics Department, to encourage post-graduate study in Economics or related disciplines such as Law.

Open to: This scholarship is open to senior Economics majors

Criteria: Exceptional academic achievement • Interview by a department committee
Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Provide at least one letter of recommendation from an Economics faculty member; 3) Write an essay or personal statement of achievement and goals with respect to graduate study; 4) Submit evidence of acceptance and intention to join graduate school; 5) Submit all materials to LH-700; and 6) If requested, complete an interview.

Norman Townshend-Zellner Award

Amount: $300

Established by: This award was established by the Economics Department to honor the memory of Professor Norman Townshend-Zellner, the first chair of the CSUF Economics Department and the founder of the Center for Economic Education, to recognize a student’s outstanding service to the department, university or community.

Open to: This scholarship is open to all undergraduate Economics majors.

Criteria: 2.5 GPA • Outstanding service to the department, university or community

Murray Wolfson Memorial Scholarship

Amount: $500

Established by: This scholarship was instituted by the Department of Economics to honor the memory of Professor Murray Wolfson, a distinguished teacher and scholar, who exemplified a high commitment to graduate teaching and scholarly research throughout his life. The scholarship is awarded annually to a graduate student in Economics who has the highest GPA above 3.75 in the three core courses (Econ 502, Econ 503,and Econ 504) in the MA Economics program. The scholarship seeks to reward and encourage the graduate student who shows the greatest potential for success in the MA program.

Open to: This scholarship is open to continuing graduate students in Economics.

Criteria: 3.75 GPA (core courses: Econ 502, Econ 503, and Econ 504) • Potential for academic success

FINANCE

CSU Real Estate Scholarship and Internship Grant Program

Amount: Varies

Established by: This scholarship is funded by the State of California Real Estate Scholarship Fund to recognize academic achievements of students considering a career in real estate. The applicant must have completed or be currently enrolled in at least two real estate courses offered by the Department of Finance.

Open to: This scholarship is open to finance and real estate majors who are pursuing an undergraduate or a graduate degree in finance.

Criteria: 2.5 GPA (undergraduate) • 3.0 GPA (graduate students) • Senior or graduate status • Enrolled in at least 6 units • Financial need

Application Procedure: 1) Complete an on-line application: In order to submit and edit scholarship applications, you must register a username/password at https://www.relui.csus.edu/RESIG/signup.asp. Once you have been registered as a user, you will immediately be able to enter application information; 2) FAFSA statement; and 3) Submit application to CP-1060-2.

Application Deadline: November 2 for the Fall semester; March 2 for the Spring semester

 

TABR Capital Management Scholarship

Amount: One $2,500 scholarship and one $1,000 scholarship

Established by: This scholarship was established by Mr. Bob Kargenian and is awarded annually. The Finance
Department, in conjunction with Mr. Kargenian, selects the award winner after an interview.

Open to: These scholarships are open to all undergraduate and graduate students majoring in any Business Administration concentration, particularly those with a strong career interest in investments and financial planning.

Criteria: 3.35 GPA • Academic achievement • Quality of statement • Interview

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, by pasting into a word document, taking care to answer all seven questions, and sign the certification; 2) Write a one-page statement that describes your goals and aspirations and will distinguish you as deserving of a scholarship; 3) Submit application materials to CP-1060; and 4) If selected, complete an interview.

Center for Insurance Studies Scholarships

Actuary Scholarship

Amount: Two $500 awards

Established by: This scholarship was established by the Center for Insurance Studies Actuary Program to recognize and honor students with an interest in actuary who have demonstrated strong academic performance.

Open to: This scholarship is open to new and continuing (full-time) Business or Math students who are pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree.

Criteria: 3.0 GPA • Actuary program interest • Be enrolled in (or have completed) one or more of the following classes: Fin 335, 360, 410, 411, 461, 462, 561, or Math 390.

Aon Risk Services Outstanding Insurance Student Scholarship

Established by: This scholarship was established by Aon Risk Services of Southern California to recognize and honor students who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance.

Established by: This scholarship was established by the Auto Club of Southern California to recognize and honor students who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance.

Bill Doomey Memorial Insurance Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

Established by: This scholarship was established by the family and friends of Bill Doomey to honor his memory. During his tenure as a Center for Insurance Studies (CIS) Board member, Bill gave generously of his time, wisdom, enthusiasm, and guidance to CIS. The Pacific Life Foundation donates matching dollars to employee gifts for this award.

Financial Services Professionals Orange County Chapter Insurance Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

Established by: This scholarship was established by SCORE on behalf of the Entrepreneurship Program at the College of Business and Economics, Cal State Fullerton.

Open to: This scholarship is open to juniors and seniors who are beginning their last year of study—all applicants must be majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Entrepreneurship.

Criteria: 3.0 GPA • Extracurricular activities • Description of financial need

Application Procedures: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Submit application materials to the Scholarship Committee, College of Business and Economics, LH-700.

MARKETING

Anaheim/Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

Established by: This scholarship was established to recognize and honor students with a strong indication of potential for success and/or achievement in the Tourism/Hospitality/Entertainment Industry. The Department of Marketing Scholarship and Awards Committee along with Charles Ahlers, President, Anaheim/Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, will make the final decision. A personal interview may be required.

Open to: This scholarship is open to junior or senior Marketing, Management, Finance, or Business Economics concentrations.

Criteria: 3.0 GPA • Extra curricular activities • Community service involvement • Tourism/Hospitality/Entertainment industry career goal

Michael T. Ashton Memorial Leadership Award

Established by: This scholarship is funded by a memorial trust established by family and friends of Michael T. Ashton and is awarded annually to recognize and honor a marketing student for leadership and academic achievement while attending CSUF. The Department of Marketing Scholarship and Awards Committee will make the final decision.

Open to: This scholarship is open to full-time, senior, Marketing concentration students.

Criteria: 3.0 GPA • Leadership qualities • Extra curricular activities including Community Service

Established by: This scholarship is funded by the Corporate Directors of the Honors Networking Program and is awarded annually to recognize outstanding academic achievement and professionalism. The Department of Marketing Scholarship and Awards Committee and the Corporate Directors of the Honors Networking Program will make the final decision. A personal interview may be required.

Open to: This scholarship is open to full-time Marketing concentration students who are members of the Honors Networking Program.

Criteria: 3.0 GPA • Outstanding academic achievement • Professionalism

Robert Jones Award

Established by: The Marketing Honors Networking Program was founded by Professor Robert M. Jones in 1994. His goal was to start a highly professional networking event to bring together the best marketing students from CSUF with the best Orange County companies. The program began with ten students and three companies. This year seventy students and over twenty-five companies participated in what is now a bi-annual event. Additionally, it has raised over $10,000 in scholarships. The Robert M. Jones Scholarship Award honors his leadership in creating this valuable and unique program, and his on-going dedication to helping students of Marketing.

Open to: This scholarship is open to full-time junior or senior Marketing concentration students who are pursuing an undergraduate degree.

Established by: This scholarship was established by Dr. Robert Olsen to honor an undergraduate marketing student who has demonstrated the outstanding overall record in preparation for a career in marketing. Funds are administered by a memorial trust administered by the Department of Marketing. The Department of Marketing Scholarship and Awards Committee will make the final decision. A personal interview may be required.
