These scholarships have been established to assist students majoring in programs offered by the College of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS).
Many professional organizations and business corporations offer state and national scholarships to engineering and computer science students. Information about scholarships and fellowships not listed in this book can be obtained from our website at
www.fullerton.edu/ecs, or from the Office of the Assistant Dean, CS-502, or by email at tteresh@fullerton.edu.
Note: For all scholarships, the notification process does not include a notification to all applicants but only to the selected recipient of the scholarship. The expected date of notification is by the end of May.
Alumni Association Scholarship for Engineering and Computer Science
Amount: $1,000
Established by: This scholarship was established and funded by the Cal State Fullerton Alumni Association to recognize students who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance and leadership within Engineering or Computer Science.
Open to: This scholarship is open to new and continuing Engineering or Computer Science major students who are pursuing an undergraduate or a graduate degree.
Criteria: Academic achievement • Good academic standing • Leadership
• Extracurricular activities • Service to academic department or ECS
Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; and 2) Submit completed application to ECS Dean’s Office, CS-502, (714) 278-2887.

Emmett D. Burnett Memorial Scholarship
Amount: $1,500
Established by: This scholarship was established by Birthe E. Burnett to honor the memory of her husband, Emmett D. Burnett, who was a division manager for the Ground Systems Group of Hughes Aircraft Company and helped to develop a close relationship between Hughes Aircraft Company (now Raytheon) and Cal State Fullerton. Preference will be given to Raytheon employees and their families, former Hughes employees involved in retraining, and Fullerton residents. The award is given to one or more students on the basis of demonstrated academic potential in engineering or computer science.
Open to: This scholarship is open to new or continuing full-time Engineering and Computer Science majors who have achieved sophomore status or beyond.
Criteria: 3.25 GPA • Scholastic achievement • Leadership • Demonstrated academic potential in engineering or computer science
Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Indicate in item 7 of application your family employee status and/or your Fullerton residence; and 3) Submit the application to ECS Dean’s Office, CS-502, (714) 278-2887.

COMPUTER SCIENCE
John Browning Memorial Scholarship
Amount: $1,000
Established by: This scholarship was established in memory of John Browning who, at the time of his death, was a high school junior with exceptional ability and interest in computers. Awards are given each Spring to several students majoring in computer science. One half of the scholarship is available after the university census date each semester, provided the student maintains full-time status. The award may be renewed in subsequent years. Two students will be selected annually.
Open to: This scholarship is open to continuing full-time undergraduate Computer Science majors.
Criteria: 2.5 GPA • Scholastic achievement • Financial need
Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (or have one on file) for establishing financial need; and 3) Submit the application to the Computer Science Department, CS-522, (714) 278-3700.

ENGINEERING
Lucas Aerospace Cargo Systems Scholarship in Mechanical Engineering Design
Amount: $725
Established by: This scholarship was endowed by Lucas Aerospace Cargo Systems, and is awarded to a senior Mechanical Engineering major enrolled in the Capstone Project Class in Mechanical Design.
Open to: This scholarship is open to continuing Mechanical Engineering students who will be seniors enrolled in the Capstone Project Class in Mechanical Design beginning in the Fall semester.
Criteria: Academic merit • GPA in upper-half of ME class • Financial need
Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (or have one on file) for establishing financial need; 3) Write a one-page personal essay describing your career plans and expectations for the next five years following graduation; and
4) Submit application materials to ECS Dean’s Office, CS-502, (714) 278-2887.

Floyd W. Thomas Memorial Scholarship
Amount: $500
Established by: This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Floyd W. Thomas, professor of Mechanical Engineering for twenty years, who encouraged students to continue their education.
Open to: This award is open to continuing full-time upper division Mechanical Engineering majors.
Criteria: 2.5 GPA • Scholastic achievement • Financial need • Professional promise
