Strategic Planning

Purpose

In August 2007, Chief Information Technology Officer Amir Dabirian initiated a process to develop a five-year Information Technology plan for Cal State Fullerton. The CSU is requiring all campuses to develop such a plan. CITO Dabirian hired his predecessor, Dr. Michael Parker, to serve as consultant on the project. Dr. Parker will conduct research and related activities and create a planning document.  The objective is to ensure that our campus IT is visionary, not reactionary, and as agile as possible in the context of rapidly changing technologies. This will be accomplished by aligning our plan with:

Process

Through an analysis of current services in the context of internal needs and responses and external trends and issues, the plan will define IT as a business unit that provides end-user services and products to the campus. A key element of the plan will be the proposal of an organizational model that will enable efficient and effective delivery of the division’s portfolio of current and future services.  

Phases

1. August-October 2007

Consultant conducts research to identify trends and technology significant issues facing higher education.  Division managers identify current portfolio of services.

2. November 2007

Consultant solicits input from division and campus community regarding IT services and issues, using open forums and invitations for personal responses to challenges and opportunities facing IT. 

3. December 2007

Consultant develops draft plan.

4. January 2008

Draft plan is reviewed by CITO and key campus constituencies (e.g. President’s Administrative Board, Academic Senate, Senate IT Committee, Division of Information Technology, Human Resources).

5. February 2008

Implementation begins.
