Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer
As Vice President for Information Technology (VPIT) and Chief Information Officer at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF), Amir oversees all enterprise services of IT. The student-and faculty- centric services provided by the Division of Information Technology include Academic Technology (including online support) research, academic, administrative, networking, IT security, common management systems (campus ERP applications including HR/Finance/Student), and other shared IT services. Amir has 27 years of experience in IT and is the former Assistant Vice Chancellor of Information Technology Services (ITS) for the California State University, Office of the Chancellor.
Amir’s vision of technological innovation has transformed the university into a model 21st-Century learning environment that is secure and sustainable. Using innovations such as server virtualization, strategic partnerships, and open source learning management software has led to a leaner and more efficient infrastructure environment.
Amir earned his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering with a concentration in computer engineering from California State University, Fullerton. He also earned a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering with a concentration in systems and computer engineering from California State University, Fullerton and a Master of Science degree in computer science from University of California, Riverside.
Executive Assistant to the Vice President for Information Technology
Robin Crew joined the campus in November 2010 as the Executive Assistant to the Vice President for Information Technology following ten years of service at the CSU Chancellor’s Office. Robin currently serves as the liaison for the VPIT and she provides oversight for the office operations and human resources. Robin received an A.A in Liberal Studies from Long Beach City College and is completing her studies in Technology Management.
Director, Student Technology Services
Elahe Amani joined the campus in August of 1999 as Associate Director of Student Financial Services after working at CSULB for 11 years supervising the Financial Aid Disbursement Office. She became director in 2001, where she worked on several technology related projects such as on-line payment, on-line billing, direct deposit of financial aid, on-line Deferred Payment Plan, as well as the Financial Literacy website. Elahe joined Student Affairs in January 2006, where she oversaw technology related projects within the division including: the design and implementation of on-line applications, and the promotion of new and emerging technologies. She also served as the liaison between Student Affairs and other entities on campus on technology related issues. As of July 2013, Elahe’s position moved to the Division of Information Technology. Along with her previous roles and responsibilities, she assumed responsibly for Titan Card, Information & Learning Commons and IT Helpdesk. Elahe has taught in the Women Studies program at both Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Long Beach, and is active on campus and beyond on gender related issues.
Information Security Officer
Kerry Boyer has been the University Information Security Officer at California State University, Fullerton since 2006. In his current role, he is responsible for the security of all protected information collected, used, maintained, or released by the University as well as leading the development of a campus wide information security strategy. His previous roles have included shared Information Security Officer for California State University, Dominguez Hills, Director of the CSU Virtual Information Security Center and over 20 years as a Network Analyst lead in enterprise server support and Network Security analysis. He has been with the Cal State Fullerton campus since 1981, initially as a student, then as an IT staff member and now in his current role as a member of the campus IT senior management team. He served with the United States Army Intelligence Command from 1976-1979 and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from California State University, Fullerton.
Assistant Vice President for Information Technology and Division Financial Manager
Rommel Hidalgo is the Assistant Vice President for Information Technology and IT Division Financial Manager at California State University, Fullerton. In his current role, he is responsible for ensuring the success of all Division Enterprise Projects as well as working with the VP/CIO and all senior IT Managers to effectively manage and strategically utilize division funds. His previous appointments have included IT leadership roles managing Academic Technology Services, Student Technology Services, the University Data Center, the Server and Storage Infrastructure, Telecommunications, the Network Infrastructure, Project Management, and the Learning Management Systems. He has been with the Cal State Fullerton campus since 1998, initially as a student assistant, then as an IT staff member and now in his current role as a member of the campus management team. Rommel is also a faculty member in the CSUF Mihaylo College of Business and Economics, teaching Information Systems and Decision Sciences. He holds an MBA from the University of Guam and a Master of Science degree in Management Science / Information Systems from CSU Fullerton.
Senior Director, Enterprise Applications
Joe Luzzi is the Senior Director for Enterprise Applications and has over 24 years of experience in CSU Fullerton’s Information Technology division. He has diverse skills, experience, and knowledge of most software applications past and present at CSU Fullerton. His knowledge of the CMS Project is vast as he has been involved in the project since its introduction to the campus in 2004. Joe’s worked on many major projects including Touch Screen Kiosks, Voice Registration, and Titan Online. Joe earned both a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science degree in Computer Science at CSU Fullerton.
Senior Director, Applications Development and Support
Kenara Ly, Senior Director of Application Development and Support, oversees the development and support of web and mobile applications. Ken began his career at CSUF as a Systems/Network Analyst in 1997 managing several enterprise systems. After volunteering to develop Class Schedule and several other applications as online resources, Ken became an Analyst Programmer for the newly formed Web Team in 2001 to develop the campus portal and other web applications. Ken received an MBA from Pepperdine University. He also received a Master of Science in information Systems and Decision Sciences and a Master of Science in Software Engineering from Cal State Fullerton. He’s certified as a Microsoft System Engineer, a Microsoft Database Administrator, and a Microsoft Software Developer. He also earned his certificates in Java Programming and Bioinformatics from CSUF Extended Education. Beyond his work in Information Technology, Ken has taught web database programming courses at a local community college.
Senior Director, IT Project Management and Operations
Berhanu Tadesse joined the campus in August 2011 and he is currently the Senior Director, IT Project Management and Operations. He is responsible for ensuring the success of the University Data Center, Server Infrastructure, Telecommunications, Network Infrastructure teams, and Digital Print Services. Prior to joining CSU Fullerton, Berhanu served as the Director of Infrastructure Services at the CSU Chancellor’s Office. Berhanu came to the CSU after several years of technical management and leadership roles in private industry. He worked as a technical consultant for Electronic Data System (EDS) for the General Motor’s Onstar Virtual Adviser system implementation. Prior to EDS, he was manager of Systems Engineering and Network Operations of General Magic Inc. in Sunnyvale, CA; which developed and hosted voice user interface (VUI) applications for the auto, banking and telecommunications industries. He graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California in 1993 and holds Project Management Professional (PMP) and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) certifications.
