2007 Dickie Award Winners
Dick and winner Tia Damron
Tia Damron with Dick Bednar and Sue Lasswell

March 2007
Senior Director Dick Bednar with Communications Director Sue Lasswell presented the Dickie Award to Tia Damron of Contracts & Procurement. Tia is most deserving of IT's Dickie Award. For over a year she has worked passionately and diligently on the behalf of TitanCard and the campus to negotiate contracts with U.S. Bank that will have long-term benefits to both institutions.  Tia entered the TitanCard project well into its life cycle and quickly became knowledgeable about all pressing issues.  On a weekly basis, she has pursued one avenue or another to bring the parties closer to agreement.  While negotiations continue as this award is made, she continues to apply her sharp analytical, negotiation and interpersonal skills to fearlessly face campus and bank entities in efforts to achieve a successful partnership. ...

Dickie Award winner - Dennis Morris
Dennis Morris receiving the Dickie trophy and coffee mug from Dick and Laura Labuda

May 2007
The Dickie Award is presented to Dennis Morris for his dedication to helping when help is needed. IT has had many moves and an abundance of new construction projects that Dennis has volunteered to help us with. Dennis has been very helpful in getting TitanCard door access for CMS participants very promptly and always does a “reply to all” to let us know when he has completed the change. With the recent relocating of CMS and IT staff, Dennis handled a large number of door access changes promptly. He's been a pleasure to work with. When we were in need of a table, Dennis searched the library and found one for us to borrow. When we converted the 6th floor of the library to meeting rooms, Dennis helped clear out the area and gave us his key to a storage area so that people using the area would be able to secure their equipment. When we received two portable partitions for the 6th floor, Dennis was there again and helped unwrap them. When it was discovered that one panel needed to be returned, Dennis assisted with taking it out to the loading dock. Dennis is generous to loan IT moving dollies, logistical tools and gadgets that we might need. For Campus Technology Day in February 2007, he offered one of the flat bed carts and a student to take refreshments and 6 cases of water over to the TSU. Dennis is a good friend to IT and is most deserving of the Dickie Award. He is always cheerful and helpful and we also like his British accent.

Dickie Award winner Tim Benbow
Tim Benbow with nominator Matt Aloha, Dick and Sue Lasswell

June 2007
Timothy Benbow has expertly supported IT in many ways for many years, primarily in the design and delivery of technical classes as part of computer rollouts. More recently, he built the online orientation for Office 2007, created a series of courses for the development of accessible web and related materials, collaborated on orientations for faculty, and just this month, began to deliver IT orientation information to new staff.

Timothy displays a unique ability to provide training to people with widely different backgrounds, from beginner to expert, while not overwhelming the beginner and not offending the expert. His first-rate talents, deep computer knowledge, curiousity and enthusiastic good nature make him a most deserving recipient of the Dickie Award.
