Blaster Worm Fixes

Blaster Worm Fixes for Windows 2000

Unplug your Network Cable or modem line.
If the computer is unstable, reboot it.

A. Patch the Operating system
  1. Open the Windows 2000 Patches folder, Double click on the file: 2000 RPC Patch.exe. Click Next, I agree, Next, Finish. Reboot the system once it is finished so it will take effect.
  2. If the RPC patch complains that you need a newer service pack, open the Windows 2000 Patches folder, Double click on the file: Service Pack 4 .EXE

    a. Click Next, I agree, Next, Select Do not archive files, Next and Finish

    b. The system will reboot
B. Install Antivirus
  1. DO NOT INSTALL VIRUSCAN 7.0 IF YOU ALREADY HAVE ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE ON YOUR COMPUTER.  CONTACT YOUR COMPUTER VENDOR OR TECH SUPPORT IF YOU NEED HELP UPDATING YOUR EXISISTING ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE.
  2. Open the Vscan 7.0 folder, Double click on the file: Setup.exe
    • Click Next, I accept the terms in the license agreement, OK
    • Select Typical, click Next, click Install --- The software will install
    • Leave the Update Now checked
    • Un-check Run on Demand
    • Click Close when auto update finishes
    • Click Finish
  3. Double click on the file Superdat4288 located on the CD
    • Click Next and Finish when its done
  4. Set the Web Update Superdat4288 located on the CD
    • Right Click on the Virus Shield in the bottom right hand corner of the screen by the clock. Select Virus Scan Console. Make sure auto update is set to weekly.
C. Update Your Operating System
  1. Reconnect your Network Cable or modem line
  2. Restart your workstation
  3. After logging in, open a web browser and go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and run the scan. At minimum you should install the Critical Patches that are available.

Unplug your Network Cable or modem line.
If the computer is unstable, reboot it.

A. Patch the Operating system

  1. Open the Windows XP Patches folder, Double click on the file: Service Pack 1a.exe
    • Click Next, I agree, Next, Select Do not archive files, Next and Finish
    • The system will reboot
  2. Open the Windows XP Patches folder, Double click on the file: XP RPC Patch.exe. Click Next, I agree, Next, Finish. Reboot the system once it is finished so it will take effect.
B. Install Antivirus
  1. DO NOT INSTALL VIRUSCAN 7.0 IF YOU ALREADY HAVE ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE ON YOUR COMPUTER.  CONTACT YOUR COMPUTER VENDOR OR TECH SUPPORT IF YOU NEED HELP UPDATING YOUR EXISISTING ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE.
  2. Open the Vscan 7.0 folder, Double click on the file: Setup.exe

The Blaster worm does not affect Windows 98 systems.

The Blaster worm does not affect Windows 98 systems. However you should update your anti-virus to the latest version below. Install Antivirus

  1. DO NOT INSTALL VIRUSCAN 4.5 IF YOU ALREADY HAVE ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE ON YOUR COMPUTER.  CONTACT YOUR COMPUTER VENDOR OR TECH SUPPORT IF YOU NEED HELP UPDATING YOUR EXISISTING ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE.
  2. Open the Vscan 4.5 (Windows 98 only) folder. Double click on the file: Setup.exe
    • Click Next, I agree to license terms, Use standard security, Next, Install
    • Un-check run scan after installation, next
    • Select run-auto update now and click next, Click OK when auto update finishes
    • Click Next and finish.
  3. Double click on the file Superdat4288 located on the CD
    • Click Next and Finish when its done

Update Your Operating System
