Answering a Call
To answer a call, simply pick up the handset. On the 760 and 780 models, you may also hit the green key ETC green key or the speaker button.

Placing a Call
To place a call, pick up the handset and dial. You may also simply start dialing the number and when it is ringing, pick up the handset. On the 760 and 780 models, you may use the speakerphone option.

To call any extension at CSU Fullerton, just dial the 4-digit number.

To make an emergency call, dial 9-911 or simply 911.

To dial off campus, dial 9 and then the number. If you are calling out of the local area, dial 9 + 1 + the area code and then the number. (Your manual says to use 0 to dial out; this is incorrect.)

Answering a Second Call
On the 760 and 780 models, if you are on the phone and another call comes in for you, the red light will flash and the line will blink. If you simply press that line, the first caller is automatically put on hold and you are speaking to the second caller. You may press the shuttle selection on the display screen to switch from one caller to another or even easier, simply press the line you wish to speak to; you may switch back and forth from caller to caller in this manner. You are able to press the red key and hang up on one caller and then hit the other caller's line to reconnect with that caller.

The capability to accept a second call on the 730 models must be programmed into the phone by the system manager. Once this is done, you are able to switch from one line to another just as the 760 and 780 models can. When a second call comes in, you will hear a short beep and the red light will flash. Contact an Irvine Campus administrator to have this function enabled.

To speak to both parties, press ETC phone key 3 or the CONF key on the display.

Phone Components and Buttons

Arrows Arrows on ETC phone
The arrow buttons are used when the phone is idle to access various directories and phone settings. Generally, the up and down arrows are used to move from selection to selection in the menu; the left and right arrows, with the plus and minus signs, are used to change the setting in a particular selection.

The right and left arrow buttons are used during a call to adjust speaker volume and ring volume.

To adjust the ring volume, while your phone is ringing, press the left and right arrows to increase or decrease the level.

To adjust the speaker volume, while you are speaking via the speakerphone, hit the left and right arrows to increase or decrease the volume.

You will need to enter only your password from your own phone. If you share a phone, you may need to enter the extension number as well. To store a new number, press * 5 1. Then enter a digit from 0-9 (there must be no number currently stored under that digit). Then enter the number using your phone keypad. To access that number, press ** and the single digit. The number is dialed automatically.

If you wish to change a stored number, you must first delete the existing entry. To do this, press # 5 1 and then the digit under which the number was stored (0 to 9). You will hear a confirming sound message and the display confirms the action.

  • Enter your current password.
  • Enter the new password twice to confirm it.
  • Remember that we will not be able to see your new password so do make a note of it somewhere.

Locking the Phone (*05)

  • To lock your phone, press * 0 5
  • To unlock your phone, press # 0 5 + your password.

Call Park (ETC phone call park key * 70)

To park a call, press ETC phone hold key * 70. Then move to another phone and press # 70 plus the extension the call was originally on.

If the call is not successfully retrieved, it will go to the operator.

Changing the Key Beep Feature
You will notice that whenever you press a key on your telephone, it beeps. On an idle set, you can use the right/left arrow (+, -) keys to either increase or decrease the volume of the key beep.

  • Enter the phone number, including 9 for an outside line and 1 plus the area code if for a different area code. Press OK when you are finished.
  • To call a number stored in your private directory, find the entry desired and press the green key. The number is dialed automatically.
  • If you have the 760 or 780 model, you may use the alphabetical keypad instead. You will press create instead of program to enter a new name. You also have a number of lists you may store a name under instead of being limited to one directory. Refer to the manual for your phone for further details.

Incoming Calls Log ETC phone directory
The incoming calls log can store the records of the last 50 calls received, whether or not they were answered. When you consult the log, you can automatically call back the number saved.

The lamp on your phone indicates information about incoming calls and voicemail messages.

If that number has called you more than once, the total number of times will also be displayed.
Press the up and down arrows to move from call to call. If you wish to dial one of the numbers, press the green key ETC green key or the OK button.
To delete a record in the incoming calls log, press the right arrow until the display says DELETE? Then press OK to confirm the deletion.
