Links & Tips
Below is a listing of helpful and important links for web developers. Suggestions for additions can be sent to Ed Bibera at: ebibera@fullerton.edu.
Following the links below will open a new page.
Accessibility
We remind web developers to educate themselves on the 508 Accessibility Standards and building pages to meet the new rules. The university's web pages must comply with this standard. Chancellor Reed Signed Excecutive Order 926 to clarify that Section 508 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act applies to the CSU.
WebEXACT (formerly known as Bobby) is a handy tool for checking website accessibility. Follow this link to use WebExact. It's easy to use: just type in the URL you want to check. The program automatically checks several categories, but some you will have to do yourself. The program provides links to explanatory text.
The World Wide Consortium (W3C) sets the standard for all things having to do with web browsers, architectures, and accessibility.
WebAIM (Web Accessibility in Mind) has a very helpful site.
The Federal Government's Access Board sets the web rules for government websites; an example that the CSU follows.
The Federal IT Accessibility Initiative page has many helpful links.

Templates
We've developed new templates, approved by the Web Portal Committee, to go with the look of the new home page. These do not use frames, and also offer three menu options, depending preferences and the size of your site. Each template set consists of a main page and secondary page. The templates are available here. Contact Larry Wong or call x5791 for information about using the templates, or to develop the appropriate header.
Search Engine & Meta Tags
Update: We've adopted the Google search engine for searching the campus site. This is a free service to the campus, so the Fullerton domain is indexed every 30 days.
We're still encouraging the use of metatags in your pages. These help search engines in their indexing and boost the likelihood of matching user queries with the pages for which they're looking. Our recommended metatag standard is as follows.
Title: Title of the page (this is VERY important)
Department: Official department name
Division: (University Divisions: President; Executive Vice President; Academic Affairs; Administrative Affairs; Business and Financial Affairs; Information Technology; Student Affairs; University Advancement)
Author: Person responsible for the page
Description: A brief descriptive sentence about the page
Keywords: Important words about the page that search engine users might use when searching for a page.
