Web Ad Blocking

Blocking Pop-Up Windows with Internet Explorer

The little blue “E” fights back against annoying pop-ups. The familiar web browser that many Windows folks on-campus use can now help us “fight-back” against those unwanted solicitations and junk that we all dread. This new feature comes as part of a recent update to the Windows operating system called Service Pack 2, which is now installed on most university computers. Sometimes, there are pop-ups that we really want to see, such as those in Blackboard and some Extended Ed sites. Fortunately, we can tell Internet Explorer to not block these sites and allow them to appear. For more information on using, configuring or troubleshooting the pop-up blocker in Internet Explorer, please visit: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/web/sp2_popupblocker.mspx
