Courses Offered Summer 2009 Semester (June-August)

All Desktop Application Training Courses are open to all CSUF employees. To see a calendar of classes, search for a class or register for a class you would like to take, you will need to use the campus LearnerWeb system which can be accessed by going to the campus portal at www.fullerton.edu, using your campus login and password and accessing the registration area of the training section which can be accessed from the right side of the menu bar.

General Microsoft Office Classes

Basic Skills in Microsoft Office

This course will provide the student with a solid foundation in using Microsoft Office. Focusing on using Microsoft Word and Excel, you will learn how to work with documents, format Word and Excel documents, create simple equations in Excel, use the writing and proofing tools in Microsoft Office, work with graphics and exchange information between Word and Excel. This course provides all of the prerequisites for the intermediate level training courses.

Managing Documents and Folders in Windows XP

This course will show you how to effectively organize documents on your computer. Topics will include using folders to organize documents, moving and copying documents and folders, deleting and renaming documents and folders, using floppy disks, zip disks and burnable discs and how to backup your documents. This is an excellent course for anyone to take.

Faculty Boot Camp For Office 2007

This course will provide essential skills faculty need for working with the Windows XP operating system and Microsoft Office 2007. At the end of the course, we will look at Titan Apps for students and discuss ways these tools can be used by faculty in their classes.

During the course the following topics will be discussed:

  • We will look at the new Microsoft Office 2007 user interface and discuss how the applications have changed from the 2003 version.
  • Tools for working with long documents in Microsoft Word such as Tables of Contents, Indexes, Styles, Bibliographies and Footnotes and Endnotes, Page and Section Breaks, Paragraph Formatting controls, and working Header and Footers
  • Document Reviewing Tools such Tracking Changes, Version Control, Comments and Document Protection tools, using the dictionary and thesaurus and other writing tools.
    Formatting Tools such as controlling the character, paragraph and page formatting commands, formatting multi-level lists, and cell and workbook formatting.
  • List management tools such as sorting and filtering information and using the summary and pivot table tools.
  • Creating effective presentations for classroom lectures and discussions, using PowerPoint, understanding slide masters, handouts, speakers notes, etc. Using styles to format presentations and how to incorporate audio and video into your class.
  • Using Microsoft Outlook to more effectively organize, find and maintain information such as emails, calendars, contacts and tasks.

The only requirement for this series is some basic experience using Windows XP, such as using a mouse and menus, starting programs and opening windows. You should also be familiar with basic operations such as Opening and Saving documents and using the Cut Copy and Paste commands.

Microsoft Outlook 2007

Organizing your Outlook Mailbox

In this course you will discover ways to use folders within Outlook to keep your email organized. Learn about your mailbox, personal folders and campus public folders. You will also learn how to work more effectively with contact lists and use other features within Outlook to keep yourself more organized.

Working with the Outlook Calendar and Task Manager

In this course you will learn how to use the calendar for scheduling appointments, events and setting up meetings. You will also learn how to share calendars and create additional calendars for scheduling rooms, events and people. In addition, this class will discuss how to use Outlook Task Lists feature to organize projects and to-do lists.

Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Outlook

In this course you will learn various tips and tricks for using Microsoft Outlook more effectively to manage email, contacts, appointments and tasks. This course assumes you have used Microsoft Outlook and know the basics, but want to extend your knowledge of Outlook to work more effectively.

Microsoft Word 2007

Microsoft Word 2007 Academy (multi-session class)

This course will take you from the basics through advanced tools and skills in Microsoft Word in one series. Topics will include: Creating and Formatting documents, using the Word writing tools, working with tables of information, working with long document tools such as headers and footers, tables of contents and indexes, bibliographies and manuscript notes, the document reviewing tools such as tracking changes and comments and mail merge.

Creating and Working with Tables in Microsoft Word

In this class you will learn how to use tables in Microsoft Word to set up data, create lists of information, format documents and create word forms. Tables are one of the most useful and little used features inside of Microsoft Word. Come learn creative ways to make your documents look more professional.

This course requires students to have a good knowledge of the fundamentals of using Microsoft Word. If you do not understand the basics of Word, please attend our Basic Skills in Microsoft Office course.

Working with Mail Merge in Microsoft Word

In this course you will learn to use Microsoft Word to create form letters, mailings, create labels, name tags, file folder labels and print envelopes.

This course requires students to have a good knowledge of the fundamentals of using Microsoft Word. If you do not understand the basics of Word, please attend our Basic Skills in Microsoft Office course.

Tools for Working with Long Documents in Microsoft Word

In this course you will learn how to use the tools in Microsoft Word to work with long documents. Topics will include: Working with Styles and Document Outlines, Creating Tables of Contents and Indexes, References, Headers and Footers, Document Sectioning and pagination control.

This course requires students to have a good knowledge of the fundamentals of using Microsoft Word. If you do not understand the basics of Word, please attend our Basic Skills in Microsoft Office course.

Document Reviewing and Revision Tools in Microsoft Word

In this course you will learn to use the tools in Microsoft Word to manage document review and revising. Topics will include: Using the Versions tool, Tracking Changes, Document Comments and Document Protection.

Microsoft Excel 2007

Creating and Working with Charts and Graphs in Microsoft Excel

In this course you will learn to create and format simple charts and graphs in Microsoft Excel. You will learn to work with Column and Bar charts, Line Graphs and Pie Charts. You will learn to customize different kinds of charts, graphs and plots in Microsoft Excel and well as learn how to work with additional chart and graph types.

This course requires students to have a good knowledge of the fundamentals of using Microsoft Excel. If you do not understand the basics of Excel, please attend our Basic Skills in Microsoft Office course.

Managing Lists of Information in Microsoft Excel

In this course you will learn to use Microsoft Excel to manage lists of information. Topics will include creating lists, using the sorting tools, filtering lists, and working with the Summary tool and working with simple pivot tables.

This course requires students to have a good knowledge of the fundamentals of using Microsoft Excel. If you do not understand the basics of Excel, please attend our Basic Skills in Microsoft Office course.

Introduction To Working with Equations and Functions in Microsoft Excel (multi-session class)

This course will discuss the basics of creating and working with equations and functions in Excel. Some of the topics will include: Absolute and Relative references, writing simple formulas, using operators, basic functions such as SUM, AVERAGE, MIN, MAX, COUNT, conditional and lookup functions such as IF, SUMIF, AVERAGEIF, COUNTIF and LOOKUP, VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, MATCH, and INDEX and how to calculate dates and times in Excel.

This course will begin assuming you have no experience writing formulas and using functions in Excel, but does assume you have used Excel before and understand the basics of using the application.

Intermediate Equations and Functions in Microsoft Excel (multi-session class)

This course will pickup where the introduction class (described above) leaves off. This class will spend two sessions discussing intermediate level applications of conditional and lookup functions and two sessions discussing applications of statistical functions

This course assume above average experience using Excel and writing formulas and using functions.

Microsoft PowerPoint 2007

Creating Presentations with Microsoft PowerPoint

In this class you will learn to use Microsoft PowerPoint to create presentations. Topics will include: Creating and working with PowerPoint slides, working with slide designs, backgrounds and layouts, working with text, graphics and diagrams in PowerPoint, creating tables of information, using transition and build effects and importing information from Microsoft Word and Excel into PowerPoint presentations.
