The DSC is a satellite campus of California State University. As such, the grounds and facilities of the DSC are closed and off-limits to the public without a reservation. Zzyzx Road, the National Park Service (NPS) visitor parking lot, and the Lake Tuendae Trail are open to visitors during daylight hours.

Lake Tuendae Trail, operated by the Mojave National Preserve, is a short, ADA-accessible trail with interpretive information about the natural and human history of Soda Springs and is a great place to spot wildlife. Visitors must respect the signs and closures that restrict access to the adjacent DSC grounds south of Lake Tuendae.

The NPS visitor lot has a pit toilet and picnic tables. There is no drinking water on site.

Off-road driving and overnight camping are not permitted in the NPS visitor lot or along Zzyzx Road. Drones and commercial photography or filming are also prohibited. Except for licensed service dogs, pets are not allowed.
