Cal State Fullerton offers a variety of clubs for students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Getting involved with student clubs can help you fully engage with your major! Clubs offer opportunities to participate in volunteer activities, find community at the University, network with students and professionals, and prepare for your careers. The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) at CSUF is a student-driven organization in the College of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) that strives to leave a lasting impact on its members. Our mission is to develop and strengthen the next generation of Innovators, Scientists, Mathematicians, and Engineers through STEM awareness, access, support, and development.
SHPE at CSUF provides its members opportunities to network with professionals, access to workshops, along with attending regional and national conventions. Not only do we focus on professional development, but also your personal development by providing a support system and leadership opportunities.

Natural Sciences and Mathematics Inter-Club Council - Video Length 4:27
The Natural Sciences and Mathematics Inter-Club Council (NSM-ICC) is a student-led council comprised of representatives from clubs in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. The goal of the NSM-ICC is to help students make connections, form collaborations, and build community within the college and across campus.

The goal of LMSA+ is to recruit and retain Latino and Underrepresented Minorities (URM) into health professions careers. Our goal is to create an intimate environment where each Latino and URM student can feel a sense of belonging and learn about health care issues affecting the growing Latino community.

SACNAS (Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science) is a national organization dedicated to “True diversity in STEM. True diversity means that the field (including leadership positions) reflects the demographics of the population.”

Flying Samaritans at CSUF - Video Length 7:03
The Flying Samaritans is an on-campus organization at CSUF that is dedicated to fulfilling the service of The Flying Samaritans, Inc., a registered non-profit corporation.
Volunteers have the opportunity to assist in administrating, translating, taking vital signs, shadowing health care providers, and working in the pharmacy.

Students who participate in student clubs can petition for funding to attend conferences through the Inter-Club Council. Students can be awarded up to $500 to cover expenses associated with conference registration, travel, and lodging.
National Conferences
Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS)
The Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS) is one of the largest communities of underrepresented minorities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Students attend this conference to present their research, enhance professional development skills, explore graduate schools, and network. Research faculty and program directors play an essential role in mentoring students and learning strategies for facilitating student success.
During the four-day conference, over 2,875 students from over 350 colleges and universities participate in poster and oral presentations in twelve STEM disciplines.

With many programs not offering research experiences this summer, ABRCMS has curated resources, activities, and strategies within the ABRCMS network to consider for remote summer research opportunities and scientific skill-building.

ABRCMS provides a list of resources to help students understand how to make sense of scientific literature by conducting a set of literature review assignments that carefully integrate several perspectives on a narrow topic.

ABRCMS provides a handful of resources for students to practice writing for various audiences and representing research interests through elevator pitch practices. Gain helpful networking skills, and explore interview tips.

ABRCMS offers free webinars to help students explore research during COVID-19. With many programs not offering research experiences this summer, how can you still get the benefits of a research experience? This series will give you resources, activities, and strategies to consider for remote summer research opportunities.

Southern California Conferences for Undergraduate Research (SCCUR)
Southern California Conferences for Undergraduate Research (SCCUR) is an organization of Southern California faculty, administrators, and interested members of the community who share the common goal of improving education for college and university students through hands-on experiences of undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity. SCCUR supports inquiry-based education, in which students learn while doing, working closely with faculty mentors on significant academic projects and presenting their results to audiences in a professional manner.
SCCUR hosts an annual conference where undergraduate students are invited to present their research findings. The conference is multi-disciplinary, including the sciences, humanities, social sciences, arts, and performing arts. Stay informed through the SCCUR website. Scholarly presentations in the sciences, social sciences, and humanities at SCCUR conferences are presented either as a fifteen-minute oral presentation or as a poster presentation. Art presentations will be presented as part of an art exhibit. Video presentations and creative writing will be presented in oral session format. You may choose either a poster presentation or an oral presentation (not both) as your preferred medium when you submit your abstract.
