Financial Aid Appeals

Carefully read the instructions of the appeal you will submit to ensure it applies to your situation and all applicable documents are included to avoid delays. Processing time varies for each type of appeal.  At the beginning of Fall term, please allow 6 - 8 weeks.

Explore details about the different types of Financial Aid appeals available for students. 

Reasons to submit an appeal:

  • Changes in income or family circumstance. 
  • Additional educational expenses not included in your Cost of Attendance.
  • Changes in Dependency Status.

Cost of Attendance Appeal

Use this form if you have additional expenses that is beyond the standard budget given to you based on your financial aid application. Educational expenses must be incurred during the academic year the change is being requested.

Examples of additional expenses include: Medical, Dental, or Vision Care Expenses; Car Repair Expenses; Excessive Mileage; Child Care; Books and Supplies in Excess of Standard; and/or One-Time Computer Expense. Appeals must include receipts, billing statements, or other forms of documentation that can verify the expense incurred.

Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal (SAP)

Use this form to request an exception to the Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy if your eligibility for financial aid has been terminated. You may also use this form to appeal to request a SAP re-calculation with additional units earned. See form for complete instructions.

Projected Year Income Appeal Information

If there has been a significant reduction to your (student or parent) income from what was reported on the FAFSA or CADAA applications, call us at 657-278-3125 to speak to one of our Financial Aid Representatives during phone hours to schedule an appointment with a counselor to discuss the possibility of a Projected Year Income Appeal.

Unusual Circumstance Appeal

You should complete this form if you are currently considered a dependent student for financial aid purposes, but believe you have unusual circumstances which warrant a review of your dependency status.

If you have already been approved for a determination of Independence, you do not have to submit this form to re-affirm your circumstances for 2025-26.

Federal Direct Loan Request Form

Use this form to increase, decrease, or cancel your Federal Direct Loans.

Use this form if you would like to make a downward adjustment to your private loan.

Use this form if you have not borrowed your federal loans up to your annual loan limit, and would like to receive the remainder during the summer term.

Housing Status Adjustment

Use this form if you had a change in your housing. You can use this form to update your housing status which may result in modified cost of attendance budget. If living on campus, your housing status will be verified by Student Housing during the Summer before attendance. No form is necessary for on campus verification.  If you're living off campus with family (parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles, adult siblings, etc...), you do not need to submit a Housing Status Adjustment.

Use this form to make adjustments to your awards such as: increase, reduction, or cancellation of loans, cancellation of all aid. See form for complete instructions.

The form is used for students' who are participating in the TEACH Program and have completed the requirements to apply for a TEACH Grant.

Federal Work Study Appeal

This form is ONLY necessary when:

  • You have not been offered FWS and are interested in the program.

You must meet the eligibility requirements, which can be found HERE.   

The FWS Team will review if you meet the criteria for the program and notify you of the outcome.

Fall 2025 Term Concurrent Enrollment

Use this form after census to report concurrent enrollment in CSUF and a community college during Fall 2025.

This form is ONLY necessary when:

  • You are Pell or Cal Grant eligible
  • You are enrolled in 6-11 units at Cal State Fullerton
  • You have not transferred 70 or more community college units to Cal State Fullerton
