The Data Talk Series, in collaboration with FDC, continues in 2020-2021, covering topics on various campus tools about institutional data. Data Talks intend to support faculty and staff's data awareness and expertise through lunch-and-learn events. The list of Data Talk topics are listed below:

  • 10/05/20 - Faculty Student Success Dashboards: The Faculty Student Success Dashboard (FSSD) is a comprehensive data visualization toolset for faculty to conveniently access their courses and observe how their work is reflected in overall and individual student success indicators. It is developed by IT, in collaboration with campus partners. In this session, IT will provide you with a demo of the dashboard, the status of the project, and its development.
  • 11/16/20 - CSUF Data and Me:  Data are everywhere. What data are used at CSUF to inform decision making?  What data are available to faculty and staff? How are the data collected and managed?  Learn more about the data infrastructure at CSUF and how you can take advantage of them too!
  • 02/22/21 - Tableau Dashboards:  Tableau is one of most popular data visualization tools, and CSUF has it!  Several Tableau dashboards – public and internal – have been built to display a wide variety of data about the university.  Learn more about how to use this powerful tool!
  • 03/15/21 - OBIEE Dashboards: Ever wonder how much information does the CSUF portal provide?  Come to this session to learn about the OBIEE dashboards -- a powerful source of information embedded in the portal -- that allow access to valuable student and faculty data.  You will even learn what OBIEE stands for! Specifically, we will dive deep into the Student Success and Registration Snapshot Dashboards.  The Student Success Dashboards track CSUF freshman and undergraduate transfer cohorts and their progress towards graduation.  The Registration Snapshot Dashboards track college enrollment by headcount and FTES, by the college of the student major and by the college that offers the course, in addition to class enrollment tallies.
  • 04/19/21 - Chancellor's Office Student Success Dashboards: This workshop will provide an opportunity to learn more about the Chancellor’s Office CSU Student Success Dashboard from its developers. The main focus will be how you can use this tool to gain insight into student success challenges at Fullerton and identify next steps and actions. After a short walk-through of the Dashboard by its developers, participants will undertake guided, interactive activities and facilitated discussions to increase both proficiency with the dashboard itself and skill at inferring meaning from it.
