Financial Aid
Financial aid as defined by the NCAA "is funds provided
to student-athletes from various sources to pay or assist in paying
their cost of education at the institution.
It includes all institutional aid and other permissible financial
aid."
- CSUF
Financial Aid Programs:
Opportunities for institutional aid administered by CSUF
include such items as scholarships, grants, loans, work-study,
and on-campus employment.
Students apply for such aid through the CSUF financial
aid office. Aid given
each student-athlete is reported to the NCAA through the squad
list and is checked against permissible aid limits.
The Director of Compliance reports amounts and calculations
of permissible aid. The financial aid office also monitors total financial aid
packages for all athletes.
- Student
Special Assistance Program:
This program is administrated by the Big West Conference
and supervised by the Sr. Associate Director of Athletics.
Students who have filed the FAFSA (Free Application For
Federal Aid) and are receiving athletic aid or the Pell Grant
are eligible to apply for financial assistance from this fund.
- Appeal
Committee: The
members of the appeal committee regarding financial aid matters
for student-athletes are appointed by the Director of Financial
Aid on an as-needed basis.
- Athletics Grant-In-Aid: The awarding
of an athletics grant-in-aid to a recruited athlete is initiated
by the coach and approved by the sport supervisor. Limitations are established for permissible aid by NCAA membership
standards.

Guidelines
for Coaches to Complete Grant-In-Aid Requests:
Instructions are given to coaches on how to complete Grant-In-Aid
Request Forms. The
process of distribution also is outlined.
Grant-In-Aid
Request Forms: These
requests (printable
or fill-in-form)
must be completed by the specific sport coach and submitted to the
sport supervisor for authorization.
Grant-In-Aid
Forms: The terms of the grants-in-aid are in full compliance with
the rules and regulations of the national organizations and conferences
in which this university holds memberships.
Voluntary
Withdrawal Forms:
Students who are receiving an athletics grant who voluntarily
withdraw from a team must notify the coach in writing.
Copies of this withdrawal form are sent to the Director of
Athletics, Director of Financial Aid, Director of Compliance, and
Athletics Financial Officer for implementation.
Voluntary
Reduction of Grant-In-Aid:
Students who voluntarily take a reduction in their grant-in-aid
must sign this document. Copies
of this form are sent to the Director of Athletics, Director of
Financial Aid, Director of Compliance, and Athletics Financial Officer
for implementation.
Involuntary
Withdrawal From Team: This letter is sent to a student-athlete
informing him/her of a right to a hearing conducted by the financial
aid office.
Student
Special Assistance Fund Application Form:
This application can be obtained in the athletics business
office or coordinator of admission & eligibility office.
It is completed by the student-athlete, approved by the Sr.
Associate Director of Athletics, and sent to the Big West Conference
office. The student-athlete
may receive this grant once each academic year.
Certification
Forms For Noncounters-bylaw 15.5.1.3.2:
A student-athlete who was not recruited by the awarding institution
and who is receiving institutional financial aid shall be a "noncounter"
if there is on file in the office of the Director of Athletics certification
by the Faculty Athletics Representative and the Director of Financial
Aid that the student-athlete's financial aid was granted without
regard in any degree to athletics ability. (Certification

NCAA
Grant-In-Aid Summary:
Each institution must supply grant-in-aid information yearly
to the NCAA. This information
is used to determine revenue distribution for the institution according
to the number of athletics grants awarded.
Employment
and Earnings Declaration:
All student-athletes who are employed during the academic
year must complete this disclosure form. The Director of Compliance checks the information, as it may
pertain to total accountable aid for the athlete.
Employer Agreement: Employers who provide jobs
for student-athletes must sign the employment agreement and return
it to the Director of Athletics each academic year before employment
of the student-athlete begins.
Book
Vouchers: Book
vouchers for a specified amount are provided for student-athletes
on a scholarship that includes books and are to be used at the California
State University, Fullerton Titan Bookstore for the purchase of
books.
Grant
Renewal: Letter sent to returning student-athlete that his/her
grant will be renewed.
Grant
Reduced: Letter sent to returning student-athlete that his/her
grant will be reduced and informs student-athlete of his/her right
to an appeal.
Grant
Cancelled: Letter to returning student-athlete that his/her
grant will not be renewed and informs student-athlete of his/her
right to an appeal.
