New Student Advising & Registration: Department of Visual Arts
Congratulations, and welcome to the College of the Arts (COTA) at Cal State Fullerton! Below are the steps needed to complete
your freshman & transfer student advising and registration. To ensure a smooth transition to CSUF, please carefully review the details outlined below.
First Time Students (Freshmen)
Step 1: Complete your General Education Modules
As a reminder, you must complete the mandatory General Education (GE) modules. GE courses are required for all first-time freshmen. Modules open June 1, 2022 .
Students are advised to register for at least two of the Golden Four GE Areas: A.1 Oral Communication, A.2: Written Communication, A.3 Critical Thinking, and B.4 Mathematics and Quantitative Reasoning. Please follow the GE recommendations provided on the General Education Module.
Visual Arts students will have GE overlap in two lower-division General Education courses.
Areas: C.1 Introduction to Arts = ART 103, ART 104, ART 107A, ART 107B, ART 201A, and ART 201B; this same overlap will also occur with the area titled “Additional course in C.1 Arts or C.2 Humanities” = ART 103, ART 104, ART 107A, ART 107B, ART 201A, and ART 201B.

Step 2: Attend your Major Advising Appointment
On June 6, you will receive an email from the College of the Arts with an advising appointment. Your appointment will consist of major advising and registration support. You are required to attend your appointment via Zoom. Expect the advising appointment to be approximately 2 hours. Please arrive on time.
Check your CSUF email regularly to learn about other major requirements and for important updates.
TRANSFER STUDENTS
Step 1: Complete your General Education Modules
As a reminder, you are strongly encouraged to complete the General Education (GE) advising modules. Upper division GE courses (300-400 level) are required for all transfer students.
Modules open June 1, 2022

Visual Arts students will have GE overlap in two lower-division General Education courses.
Areas: C.1 Introduction to Arts = ART 103, ART 104, ART 107A, ART 107B, ART 201A, and ART 201B; this same overlap will also occur with the area titled “Additional course in C.1 Arts or C.2 Humanities” = ART 103, ART 104, ART 107A, ART 107B, ART 201A, and ART 201B.
If you do not see lower-division courses that you have already taken populating in the correct area of your TDA, please let an advisor know during your registration session. Do not register for the course if you believe you have already taken it.
Additionally, Visual Arts students can overlap a GE Course from Area C.3 by taking one of the following: ART -311, ART -312, or ART -380.

Disability Support Services (DSS): Should you need accommodations during advising and registration and/or while at CSUF, DSS is available to support you and answer any questions or concerns that you may have during this time.
