Commencement Checklist

For a downloadable version, please see our Commencement Checklist (downloadable PDF).

Step 1: File for Graduation (required)

A graduation application must be submitted for the graduation terms of fall 2024, spring 2025 or summer 2025.

The graduation application is used by the student to notify the university that they are ready to complete their bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree program. All coursework for the degree program must be completed prior to the award date (end of the graduation term they applied for). Students will not be able to register beyond their expected declared graduation term, so it is critical that the graduation application be accurate at the time of filing.

Undergraduate students should contact the Registrar’s Evaluation Unit with questions regarding completion of degree requirements, degree conferral and diplomas. For more information on how to apply to graduate, please visit the Apply for Graduation website of the Office of the Registrar.

Graduate students should contact the Office of Graduate Studies with questions regarding completion of degree requirements, degree conferral and diplomas. For more information on how to apply to graduate, please visit the Office of Graduate Studies website.

Step 2: Register To Participate in Commencement (starts April 1st)

All graduating students planning to participate in their college ceremonies must register in advance to attend.

You must have graduated in Fall 2024 (January 2025)

Or

You must be in “CANDIDATE STATUS” for spring 2025 or summer 2025 graduation.

Students who have re-applied to graduate this academic year but have previously participated in a Commencement ceremony for the same degree are not eligible to participate again.

Commencement registration tile will appear in your portal starting April 1st. Register your Commencement participation via your student portal by April 23.

Step 3: Type and Record Your Name, Information, and Download Your Tickets.

In your registration form, you will type and record (in MarchingOrder via your student portal) how you want your name to read on the screen as you cross the stage. This does not affect how your name is printed on your diploma.

Please record your name in the third section of the registration page, via ProNounce. Your recording will be used to properly pronounce your name as you cross the stage. This recording must be completed by April 23, 2025 at midnight.

Your registration will create a unique GradPass QR code that will be used to trigger name announcement as you walk across the stage. You will receive your GradPass QR code at grad lineup the day of your ceremony.

Each graduate will receive eight tickets for their ceremony. Tickets are free and cannot be bought or sold. Tickets that are bought or sold will be invalidated by the university.

Guest tickets will only be available electronically via MarchingOrder.

Log into your student portal to access MarchingOrder (the process is the same as when you logged in to register) Open your MarchingOrder registration page and scroll all the way down to the bottom to claim your eight tickets. You will then have the option to email or print your guest tickets.
