Sarah Ripper

I believe in creating a safe and brave classroom and rehearsal space where my students can learn and play without fear or judgement. I believe in listening to each student and meeting them where they are at in their educational journey, and acknowledging them for who they are as unique individuals.

I am dedicated to continuously educating myself on anti-racist, inclusive, and equitable teaching practices that will enhance my curriculum for the better; this also includes recognizing when I make mistakes and learning from them.  I acknowledge that theatre and philosophy from Africa was stolen and erased by Europeans. I also acknowledge colonialism in Asia and the Americas. I acknowledge the native land on which I teach. I recognize my own educational history of mainly Eurocentric practices, and am dedicated to teaching beyond what was taught to me.

I am dedicated to pursuing and empowering my students to use theatre for change. I aknowledge my privilege as a cis-gender hetero white female in this country.I want to thank and recognize the many LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC educators, students, and friends who have shared their stories with me, and who have taught me compassion, empathy, and what equity really means.  I am dedicated to serve as an ally and fight for the rights of others.
