The Titan Experience

September 27, 2017  by Megan Ayala, Social Media Intern

Hey, Titans!

My name is Megan Ayala, and I am the Social Media Intern for Housing and Residential Engagement. I will be overseeing all the social media and this blog for the Fall 2017 semester! I am a senior at CSUF, majoring in Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations and minoring in Gender Studies. This is my third year working for Housing and Residential Engagement and I lived in Housing for three years.

Why is this important, you might ask? Because, what I want to talk about is involvement. This is probably the most important thing you can do during your college years. While I hope that everyone has been able to get a handle on their classes, I also hope that you have been able to find opportunities to get involved with our campus and here in the Housing Community. There are so many options when it comes to getting involved! Whether it's with your particular college, a volunteering club, Greek life, or an ASI group; there is a place for anyone!

Believe me, when I say, I never thought I was going to be the person ever to be involved in school, I avoided getting involved in high school, but during my second semester here at CSUF that all changed. In Housing, we are lucky enough to have our Resident Advisors that can facilitate community within our floors and we have two student organizations: the Resident Student Association and the National Residence Hall Honorary to do that, too. Personally, RSA was the one thing that got me out of my building and in the community, it brought me some of the closest friendships and the best memories. So much so that I became the Treasurer in the next year and then Marketing Coordinator in the one after that, which added more to my growing class workload and my experiences in the process. RSA also brought me to the Titan Student Centers Board of Trustees where I am still a member. TSCBOT is a board in ASI that oversees the majority of the buildings that ASI owns- the TSU, SRC, and the Irvine Lounge and Fitness Center. Student leadership is an experience like no other; you can gain skills that you won’t master in a classroom: from basic Accounting to Photoshop to the ability to run a meeting properly. These are all available to you as a student here at CSUF if you take some time out of your evening and visit any “general meeting”. I know it can seem daunting, or you might be thinking that you’re not the “right fit” for student leadership, but I can assure you that it’s something that you won’t want to miss! So, get out there! I’ve included a few meeting times below. Feel free to contact me or your RA for more information about getting involved; you can also visit asi.fullerton.eduOpens in new window for even more info about the perfect place for you!
