Meet Our New Intern!

March 1, 2018 by LaTianna Wallace, Social Media and Public Relations Intern

Hello Titans and Welcome Back!

My name is LaTianna Wallace and I am the social media intern for Housing and Residential Engagement. This spring, I will oversee all social media accounts and blog posts for the semester. I am a senior at CSUF, majoring in Communications with an emphasis in Public relations. I will be graduating this year with my Bachelor’s degree and I couldn’t be more excited than spending my last semester engaging with you Titans in the housing community! I have worked in HRE for three years and I lived within the community for one awesome year.

During my time here at CSUF, I have learned a lot about myself through classes, clubs, leadership roles and living within the housing community. Transitioning into a university can be challenging and if you are like me, you came to college with one priority and that was school. The only reoccurring item on my weekly schedule was class. My life-long goal is to consistently grow into the best version of me I can be. However, I cannot be the best me if I don’t put myself out there and try new things. So, why is all this information important you may ask? Because, being a student is great but, becoming a student leader is awesome.

Getting Involved on campus is one of the most important things you can do during your college years. Being involved not only helps you build your network, but also helps to develop your leadership and communication skills. Yes, you are here for academics first, but there are many other opportunities on campus for leadership and educational growth. If you are a reoccurring reader, you may remember Megan giving similar advice during the Fall semester (Titan Experience post). Megan speaks about her involvement at CSUF and how it changed her college experience. Similar to Megan, becoming involved on campus has made my college experience something that I will always be thankful for. As a freshman, I was involved in the Resident Student Association (RSA) and that led me to get involved all over campus. In RSA, I sat on the marketing committee and helped make flyers and posters which helped me develop my digital marketing and graphic design skills. I have also been involved in ASI, Black Student Union (BSU), Entrepreneurship Society, Honor society’s and many other organizations. I wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself. So, I started off just joining organizations for fun, but gradually I transitioned into leadership roles. I am currently the president of the Black Student Union and I can say that if wasn’t for me beginning my leadership skills as a resident in RSA, I would not be here today.

So what are you waiting for? There are many different opportunities for you to get involved around campus, therefore I challenge you to take a risk! Right now is currently an election period. Meaning that there are open positions for many different organizations all over the university. So… Join an organization and become a student leader! Take advantage of your college years! I have included different meeting times for organizations and links to different pages that may be beneficial for you. If you have any questions, feel free to tweet or direct message @CSUFHousingOpens in new window  on Instagram and Twitter. I know there is something out there for you and I’d be happy to help you find it!
