Why We Started a Blog

November 28, 2016 by Luke Higgott, Social Media & Marketing Assistant

Let me start off by introducing myself. My name is Luke; I'm the Social Media & Marketing Assistant for Housing and Residence Life. I'm a student employee here, so I go to class full-time while I manage outreach for the department. I'm a fourth year Computer Science student here at Cal State Fullerton.

So, how many of you have opened and read the Newsletters that we've sent out in the past? If this is your first time living with us, we've only sent one this academic year, but for our returning residents, we recognized that not a lot of you actually read them, so we're trying to a new method.

We understand that people don't like reading their emails. But, we still have information that we need and want to share with you all on a regular basis, so we've decided to take a less structured and more friendly approach; and thus our blog was born!

Our plan is to use this blog as a way to communicate with you all in a place that's easy to find - right on the front page of our website - and in a way that's friendly and easy to read; and as a way to be truly open and transparent with our residents and community - so you know that the department you live in is run by actual people like myself, and that more than 75% of our staff are students.

Our web developer, Roshan, worked hard to build the framework for this blog, so we'd really like it if you all would read our posts. We'll probably still email you when we post a new thing. You should also check out the nifty Comments section below each post - it actually works, and we'll answer! Lastly, be sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, where we'll post whenever we have an update to share.

If you have questions about why we started this blog, or if you want to give us ideas on stuff we should post about, get in touch with one of our staff and let us know! You can find contact information for all of our office staff on our Meet our Staff page, and I promise they'll answer :)

Thanks for reading, Titans, and enjoy the rest of your week!
