We are 8 weeks into the semester! Wow, those weeks flew by quick! I know some of you have the middle of the year blues, but we are half way there! Let’s keep working to finish this semester strong. If you are lacking motivation and need help in different areas, this post is for you. CSUF has many resources for students to be successful. Whether that be in academics or personal life, there are many options available to be successful. Here are some resources on campus that may help you finish out your semester strong.

The Writing Center

It is about that time in the semester when you may be taking midterm exams and having to write course papers. Thankfully, the English department offers a writing center for students to get help on papers and other writing assignments. The center is a great resource for students to ask questions and get answers as well as, get one on one help with assignments. Therefore, if you need assistance in writing, make sure to make an appointment at the center.

Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS)

Being a student can be stressful. Especially when you may be dealing with many other personal stressors that are taking a toll on your body physically and mentally. However, CAPS is a resource that strives to help students achieve and find ways to deal with those stressors. CAPS provide a variety of counseling services to help students in areas they are personally struggling. Counselors are there to help students meet their goals and continue to get support they need. If you need someone understanding to talk to, make a appointment with CAPS.

Diversity and Initiatives, Resource Centers (DIRC)

Resource centers are a great place for students to socialize with their peers and have dialogues about specific issues relating to their community. At CSUF, DIRC oversees five different resource centers: The African American Resource Center (AARC), Asian pacific islander Resource Center (APARC), Chicana/Chicano Resource Center (CRC), LGBTQ Resource Center (LGBTQRC)and Titan Dreamers Resource Center (TDRC). All resource centers are a safe space for students to foster growth. The centers have microwaves, study spaces, libraries and workshops. I encourage you to visit a center to learn more about certain communities.

Academic Advising

Meeting with an academic advisor not only provides academic counseling for courses, but also offers students a timeline for their graduation track. Choosing courses is challenging, so meet with an advisor to get help. The middle of the semester is a great time to start thinking about what classes you want to take the next academc year. Visit your general education or specific college advisor as soon as you can before they get rushed by the many students who need advising.

If you are experiencing a life changing event, visit Tuffy’s Basic Needs Center to get support and guidance as you continue your education at CSUF.
